Ye, I do really like the Link/Vi-Pec ecus.

not a huge fan of teh software, PC-Link is better than the vipec despite been 99% the same

Im sure that is more to do with me playing with every available ECU software that is out there lol

The Adaptronic software is fine on a 19" monitor...not sure how it would go on a little note book though....too many small tabs to click on

I do alot of adaptronics and the only let down is certain parts of the software, its uber clunky to use and takes forever to adjust things like cold start and temp compensations, its all individual figures not a whole table as such.

The fuel and ign tables ae super effiecent to tune though and very user friendly. (if your reading guys take it as constructive critisim :P )

great product.

long time between drinks

seriously considering the sprint 500

Im not going to need 11ty inputs/outputs on a 220rwkw Supra

IS basic enough that I think I'll be able to get it setup and driving easily enough

I was set on a more advanced ECU (the Wolf V500) but considering it would cost half as much I paid for the car, it just isnt worth it to me, this car is gonna be relegated to the ocasional Sunday drive and as a learning tool for me

So having a heap of features I'll never make use of is pointless, i.e No point having gearbased boost/traction control when it doesnt break traction.

Found out I dont need an ECu that will control an Auto (the MV autos box thing does that) but it would be nice....though no local tuners know how to do it lol

So If I ever make the move back to QLD I'll buy the Wolf and you can go nuts Dan lol

But for now, basic stuff is fine

That's what it's all about mate, picking the one that's right for your application, not always the one that has the most features. Especially if you're working on a budget and for others, they would need to consider who around them can tune the ECU they choose.

Let us know how the Sprint goes

Thanks Dan :D

I should clarify that the MV shift box doesnt do "drive" and shift by itself, but stops the auto having a heart attack if the Trans computer is pulled

So I'll chuck a B&M or Hurst shifter at it so I can pretend its an R35 lol

Shouldn't any tuner worth his weight be able to tune anything..

I mean, at the end of the day all ecus perform the same basic function don't they..

Is a tuners dislike for a certain ecu an indication that the ecu is a dud or just they can't be bothered to learn it..

For instance I know if Trent told me an ecu was crap I would take his word for it because the man can and will tune anything and is always up for a challenge..but then I hear some guys who's tuner gives them a list of say pfc, link, vipec and says don't bother with anything else..

Meanwhile alot of alternative systems get a bad rep when it seems to me like its just laziness on the tuners part. I would think that any decent tuner would love it if somebody came into their shop with a new system to try and if they don't, well personally I would prefer not to have someone like that tuning my car..I dunno maybe I'm just spoilt for choice or just missing the bigger picture..

End

I think a lot of it comes down to personal preference and History with that Brand

No different to me liking Toyotas and Fords

where some might like Holden and Nissan

I wouldnt own another Rb25 because of the history of Issues I had with mine

In my tuners case, he is happy to have a go at tuning whatever I bring him, he just makes it clear that I may not get the results I'm expecting compared to if I went with an ECU he was experienced with. Personally I just don't see the point in giving my tuner an ECU that he hasn't tuned before when it's the tune that is going to make the difference.

At the moment I'm saving to switch to a ViPEC/Link as I feel the NIStune just isn't happy in my car, I've had way too many problems with the stock ECU so far. My tuner thinks he can get me more power and a better curve with a ViPEC, so I'll be happy to give it a go when I can afford it.

Get knocked down get back up again man..

I have never had a single issue with mine Zeb .

It has sat in a shed for years and started first kick..its jumped gutters, hit a concrete wall and been wrapped around a pole.I have pulled it to pieces with my limited knowledge and put it together with different bits and still it has never missed a beat..

Everytime I drive it I am expecting something to wrong, but it never does..I love my skyline :D

That last bit I dont fully understand

20deg of ingition timing on one ECU is the same as 20deg on any other ECU right?

so I dont see how one can make more power than another

Because mine won't hold the timing. The stock ECU keeps freaking out, pulling timing on random occasions. I have a very random misfire at ~5000rpm which is when the ECU decides to pull timing. The ViPEC wouldn't do it.

Now I've got this whole corrupt ECU thing... I dunno. Too many problems. I haven't managed a single tune yet, in the 2 years my car has been turbocharged, that I haven't had an ECU related problem.

I wouldnt own another Rb25 because of the history of Issues I had with mine

After going through all the trouble modifying my CA18det into 316rwkws region I think the Rb25det is hell of an excellent engine  .
