They spec the normal GTX2863 for 2000 bucks including the normal 3"/2" compressor housing for 2000 bucks, so an extra 200 bucks for a gtr style compressor housing machined out to fit doesn't seem that bad to me...

anyone have any thoughts on the response difference running GTX2863s on a 2.6 instead of a 2.8?

im trying to gauge how the'd go on mine after seeing the dyno plots on a 2.8. im guessing a similar difference between the -5 and GTX plots just moved slightly up the rpm scale?

Why bother....OK apart from Legality (which aftermarket turbos still dont cover you for).....

how did I know that video was what was in the link.

old tech twins vs new tech billet single

should have used a GT3582 from an XR6 turbo. that would have been a better comparison since the compressor wheels are all of similar design and the only variable would have been twin vs single.

What if he had used newer gtx2863 vs older gt3582 single?

I posted this in the comments of the video but I'm still awaiting a reply

To be fair, he is correct in that he's comparing two common setups. Not many are running around with GTX2863's still.

but it not about comparing "common" setups it was all about "low twins vs single".

his single setup uses a 50mm ex gate which looks to be to atmosphere, plus his 3.5" exhaust which helps with the response mid topend power.

he should have plumbed the gate back in before the cat. to make it a fair fight.

Not siding either way as I'm after a stock appearance myself.

+1 for stock appearance

That video is a good summary of my feeling going from twins to the 6262

He seems to have epic power from -9s though or a slightly happy dyno?

-7 housings with -5 wheels I believe, Pete.

^yeah, that's why I'm super keen to see a pair of GTX2860's in -7 housings. I'm curious how hard they'll go in the .42 compressor covers.

Also worth noting is the stock head work and tomei poncams with only 9.1mm lift!

GTX2863 are not bolt on. He says in the opening lines what the comparison is and goes through all the pros and cons.

Haven't most of the graphs of gtx turbos proven they don't spool quicker but they make more power?

So using an older gt style 3582 would just not make as much top end

    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
    • I assume clearances were all a-okay?
