did you get in and qualify for the higher tariff rebates (solar) before Sept 30 Andrew?

I've got a 3.0 kw system coming early next year as my power bill is not far off yours.....problem with home office....I should go out on the road more often cause everything is on when I'm home

Haha - you should try on my last power bill - $2,400 for the QUARTER. Yes, you read right. But you get that with a big house with a 12kw reverse cycle a/c running almost 24 hours a day, many plasma/tvs on all day, home office with at least 2 pcs running all day, outdoor electric spa ..... I should own my own power company.

suprised you didnt get pinged for a hydro lab investigation , using that much power. fark, you need some solar for sure a paddock full of panels haha

Nah haven't put the solar on yet Pete - and I could never produce more than I use, so the feed-in tariff is null and void. We had priced up and were just about to go with a $20k 5kw Conergy system when I got hit with a $21,500 run-off insurance bill from winding up my company and going on as staff with work, so that wiped out the spare $20k I had put aside .... but early next year we will put a 5kw system on to help with the bills.

And yes Troy, thankfully haven't had the cops sniffing around for a hydro setup .... with the amount of power we use I am surprised we haven't been flagged.

That really bites. The solar stuff was supposed to help not hinder. My dads got 5kva of panels. Takes note of what he goes/uses and all that. Hes a bit mad. But with a big house we end up using it all one way or another...

Solar would work better if the panels were cheaper - they will be in 5 yrs time when the new construction methods come into effect (and they'll have 2-3 times the energy generation per square inch too).

Sadly its not getting cheaper. ;(

Yeah there was a story on the news a few months back about how they have cracked some new technology where they can get about 200W out of a panel that is the size of an A4 piece of paper, rather than the conventional size panels you see today. It will make roofs a LOT less ugly! But yeah the price is currently still pretty insane.

Just back to the topic of speeding for moment here.

My usual 40 odd km trip into work sees me driving past 3 fixed speed cameras. And once every week or 2, usuall on Monday, I'll pass a mobile camera too. So let's say, at worst, I drive through 1 camera every 10km.

Tonight, on top of the usual 3 fixed, I drove through an additional 4 mobiles. 1 camera every 5.7km...

How the f**k is that kind of camera density necessary? How is it anything other than blatant revenue raising?

Its not. Its stupidity mane. I drive 60kph on the needle the 15 minutes it takes me to travel from Hampstead Gdns to Mawson Lakes, get all sorts on mongos overtaking me at 70, driving 50kph in the right hand lane, people who stick to the absolute left hand side of the lane when there is a slip lane to go left, people who wanna turn right, but dont use the slip lane, try and use the racing line, fail miserably and end up holding up the entire outer lines worth of traffic.

Lets face it. Adelaide drivers are shit.

We will eventually have everyone in Adelaide looking at their speedo all time while passing speed cameras and not paying attention to the road !

I know i do when going through an intersection ,

It makes me wonder if anyone has had an accident claim and blamed cameras

due to continuously checking their speedo coming to an intersection or looking back at a speed camera they just passed ?

I reckon that would be an uphill battle.

They'd just turn around and say something like any good driver should be able to maintain a set speed and attention to the road and their surroundings.

Then they'd laugh.

While were on the subject of solar , I was installing and selling solar for a living most companies dont tell you certain things when you buy a system ,

heres a few interesting facts :

The maximum watts you will get out of a 5kw system is 4kws pretty much 80% is all you will get even in perfect conditions on a roof top .

How they get the 5kw figure is calculated from the panel numbers which are calculated in a laboratory in perfect conditions

in reality you deal with dust , clouds , atmosphere and heat losses from the panels heating up .

Therefore 1.5kw will max out at 1.1kw so on and so on for 3kw , this will extend the amount of time the system will pay itself off .

I have a 1.5 kw system which saves me $200 a year mainly in summer the rest of the year is a waste of time .

I have had several jobs where i have replaced 4 pinch.gif inverters on the one job because they have self destructed = chinese made rubbish , the other problem with this is most inverters have a 2 year warranty

and i garauntee you will have to buy 1or 2 more inverters in the life of the system @ 3k a piece

The most efficient panel available in the world at the moment is 17% not 95% which they tell you when buying a system , the inverter maybe 95% not the panels

The latest technology is Solar paint , even cars with the paint can create a voltage ?

Speeding fines are blatant revenue raising mate. No matter how many camera's you put up, people who want to speed will end up speeding and risking others lives. Govt f**ked up their budget so they need money from somewhere, and they can't jack the taxes up by a lot. The Govt actually budgets on getting xx amount of dollars from speed fines etc.

Yesterday I followed the alcohol testing bus police vehicle to victor harbor, after a night on the jacks, i was sitting on just over 100 in the 100 zones and he lost me- he stuck to 100 in the 80 zones also--just goes to show how much the speed limits are there for safety when even the police ignore them. Clearly revenue raising- Have to pay gillards 90g pay increase somehow-

Ive been telling people about the min 30% water increase for over a year now, everyone thought eh whatever... well well well. Perks of working at the f**k up of a desalination plant.

Which for the record STILL isnt operational, all the bs on the news... DONT BELIEVE IT. I am yet to hear a single machine or generator start buzzing and pumping anything. The water outlet shaft (returns water back to sea) isnt even connected yet ffs. They did some water testing and what not, made a bunch of cartons of water to prove to people how theyve successfully desalinated water (which no one drinks at the desal, and I have a hard time believing that place made anything).

f**k i hate this state, and this government. Bunch of useless idiots who just want $$$.

Agree with you Marko, they make the public believe that something is happening or is being done when really nothing is getting done. Just feed the public BS to keep everything on the low down.

    • One thing I can tell you is, do it properly the first time. If you encounter unexpected problems just let the car sit for a week or two if you have to get some other parts or figure stuff out.  I'd have said go and use as many OEM parts as possible but since you want to change the turbo later on a custom kit is probably the better choice. Since I have no experience with RB25 just compare parts diagrams and images before buying a line kit and it should be easy to see if it has everything you need. Amayama has very good parts diagrams and part number lists, that is what I used a bunch to figure out what I might need. And don't forget to plan ahead and possibly renew other stuff that's easy to get to while you're in there doing the turbo lines. Happy wrenching
    • Update 4:   Hi all, good news. Engine is running and all the gaskets and seals seem to be working as intended. No leaks so far, even the JB Weld seems to hold. I flushed out the old coolant a few times and put in fresh coolant, not Nissan stuff, I decided to try the Ravenol Protect FL22, they claim it works for a wide variety of JDM cars and the opinions on it by some people were pretty good. And it has the nice poison green color! And man am I glad I bought a coolant system tester earlier this year, vacuum filling works wonders on this engine. I can definitely recommend this to anyone still doing it the old school way. All you need is compressed air supply. Will have to do a small test drive as soon as I can, I removed the gauge cluster again as the tacho needle was still bouncing around a bit but it was much better than before already.  I also found some cracks on all 4 tires inner and outer sidewalls. Apparently these tires should 't be parked on for extended periods or be kept under 0 degrees during storage, which I did not know. Clearly the previous owner didn't look into those details either, he probably bought them just cause they are cool semi-slicks. I'm just wondering how tf I am supposed to reach 30-80 degree tire temperatures on the public road consistenly, these tires were never going to work for my use case. I'll probably order Continental SportContact7 ones as these are the best allround summer tire available right now and I don't think I'll need anything crazier for now. Do let me know if you have experience with various tires and which ones you recommend.
    • You have no idea how many goddamn boxes I received these past three months haha Most have been put to use by now though, luckily
    • Not going to pretend I didn't do a bit of junky work this time around, but mostly due to the fact that some things I am not willing to spend days fixing right now, like wiring. I try to do most things properly the first time around.
    • Regardless of neglect or incompetence, fixing either is tedious and annoying. Most of the neglect on my car is definitely rust. I hope I can at least pass inspections later on and they won't fail the car due to slightly corroded hardlines. I was generous with rust converter and wax and it looks ok, most lines in the rear are hard to see properly anyways.  Definitely will test them though to make sure they don't rupture under pressure, in that case the car isn't going anywhere this year.
