Manuel Kasko
Hey guys, Anyone got some tips or ideas for mounting the 044 as an intank pump? Searched the forum and only for one article about it where a guy used an EB falcon fuel sock attached to it I can't find a fuel sock anywhere no shops stock them or anything. Ideas would be great Thanks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388849-bosch-044/ Share on other sites
The Mafia
Remove the stock pump, and attach the Bosch in its place in the factory fuel rail. It has it's own factory sock. Maybe get a fresh sock from Nissan for about $5? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388849-bosch-044/#findComment-6196811 Share on other sites
CLNGMH
No because you shouldn't do it. an 044 pump is a feed pump ONLY it will not draw fuel like a walbro or any of them correct intake pump, unless it is gravity feed these pumps will fail. This is why there is no information for you to search. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388849-bosch-044/#findComment-6196944 Share on other sites
wolverine
I wrote up a DIY for a bosch 984 many years ago (which is almost exactly the same to install as an 044) but your life will be much easier these days with a some of smaller framed fuel pumps with all the bits in the bag. TiTAN
i have a 044 pump mounted in tank with the factory fuel sock. has been going fine for over 2 years so far. 040 pumps have a built in filter, 044 does not. sweefu
Why not buy the 040 pump to start with? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388849-bosch-044/#findComment-6197002 Share on other sites
TiTAN
because you cant fit any kind of sock to the 040 so it will only suck up fuel as low as the pump is mounted. 34GeeTeeTee
I purchased the fitting kit for an 044 through JEM - ingleburn.... Its just a sock that goes on the base of the 044..... They look like a bitch to fit though due to the size of the pump!!! I read the DIY on installing fuel pumps on this site this morning after swapping pumps with a mate last night, was a PITA Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388849-bosch-044/#findComment-6197112 Share on other sites
Manuel Kasko
Is it worth the hassel? Someone just pmed me saying the following: These pumps are a pain to fit up. They need the factory bracket cut off and then the pump is clamped to the bracket. Factory steel fuel pipe has to be removed from the bracket too. The height on the bracket is critical or the pump won't suck all the fuel, car will conk out on 1/4 tank. You have to do this just right too or the clamps will foul inside the tank, even then the pump body is a bit too large to fit easily and heaps of force is needed to get it on and off the bracket's slot again. I modified a hose barb (removed the barbs) and then the stock sock pushed over nice and tight. Wiring needs to be altered as the terminals are much larger than factory. Make sure you don't get positive and negative back to front. The pump is supposed to have a non-return valve on the outlet. Usually this costs another $30. If you run it without the valve (as I did in the photos) the fuel drains back to the tank overnight and you have to do a few key on-offs to prime the rail in order to start the engine. Gets annoying so I pulled the pump, bought and fitted the valve. This then needed a touch up of the tune, car had some lean spots as the valve is very restrictive. The 044 is very, very noisy, usually because it's touching some part of the tank inside. This is so hard to get correct as it's a bastard of a job to remove and re-try I'll never buy another 044 but back then the other options weren't so readily available as they are today. Tomei etc make a drop in pump, no hassles. Regards. TiTAN
the noise issue can helped a lot by getting some fuel resistant PVC tube from clark rubber and using metal worm drive clamps to hold the pump to the stock bracket with the PVC between. i used to have pictures of my pump attached to the bracket but i am unsure where i put them. The 34GTR pump was noisy in my car as it was hard mounted, however i found the Walbro we pulled out of my mates car has a jacket on it and it was apparently still loud anyway? Here is a pic of the bracket with the end cut off and the clamps, its nowhere near the size of the Bosch units etc but its more so for the posts above - Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388849-bosch-044/#findComment-6197207 Share on other sites

TiTAN
as long as you mount it so that there is no metal on metal contact the noise is fairly sedate. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388849-bosch-044/#findComment-6197262 Share on other sites
