Rotate your turbo housing. Its facing the wrong way. Just loosen the 4 or 6 screws holding the exhaust housing to the turbo core and rotate it 180 degrees then tighten it up. You might want to make sure you do it right though, ie your oil feed is at the top of the turbo still, and draining out the bottom. You DO NOT want water at the top. It will only fit one way so do it right coz its a bitch in the arse to keep adjusting. I got my old gt3071r the right way around first go

Pics to explain better no matter how much you rotate the exhaust housing the dump should face down on a stock manifold when you turn the housings it rotates the core you want the oil drain facing straight down

yep vlt orientation is completely different to rb20/25. mixxing manifolds and turbos means a custom dump, not worth it when you can get a stock turbo to suit for ~$300 in good condition

rotating the exhaust housing will never change which way the dump faces....

I had it wrong lol I thought he meant nothing was lining up, the we setup. When he said upside down I assumed the t3 flange was out along with the dump.

VL dump wont fit, as vl manifold faces straight down, wheras rb25 manifold faces sideways. PS ive had a highflowed vl turbo on a 25/30 and it sucked, just get a real turbo

mine is hi-flowed too. is it really that bad? was the power similar to a std rb30et?

It could have been rotated by someone.

Well I was wrong too, as Adriano confirmed the VL manifold points down, but what did you mean by being rotated? Have a hard think about it for a second.......... You cant rotate flanges on a cast iron housing mate... lol

The VL rear housing is complete with dump.. The wastegate flapper is part of the dump so its also hard to change that.

My bad tho Adriano, I thought I remember a VLT manifold looking like a RBDET one, but it has been a few years since I toyed with one of those!

    • Am I correct in assuming that the R35's are getting the classic skyline haircut off the odometer?  Quick search on carsales, there are 33 08 and 09 GTR's for sale, only 2 of them have more then 100,000km's on them (116,075 and 110,000 respectively).  And somehow there are about 25 for sale with around 60,000kms? Looks like the classic skyline haircut to me =/
    • @Stringycheese  Have you only gone to the one blue slip workshop?  There will be a heap of them where ever you live, good odds that the next place you go to will pass the car.  Unfortunately (or fortunately?) every blue slip / engineering workshop will be different and will be happy passing or failing different things - despite working from the same set of rules. It's kinda like 2 lawyers arguing over a piece of legislation, each saying their interpretation is correct. Might seem strange that this happens when it comes to getting a modified car passed, but this is very much a thing. A big part of the game is finding an engineer / workshop that is on the same page as you.
    • Bah. I daily mine. ~60km per work day, 10-12 thousand km per year. What's the point of having a dirty old Datto and leaving it in the shed. It needs to be driven and enjoyed while the govco allows us to do so. It will only be a few years before we're forbidden to even start up internal combustion engines.
    • Judging by that spring perch and the normal looking spring on it - not a coilover. Well.... it is a coilover, just a stock format coilover, rather than what everyone calls a coilover.
    • Yes it is. We get stock from Nismo directly. I'm happy to take photos/video of it as proof before I ship it with timestamps or whathaveyou.
