Had the car checked over by someone local as i didn't want to drive it far.

What i got back was the 6th cylinder on the rb26 was gone, that piston had melted

compression was somewhere in the vicinity of 150psi on first 5 and 30psi on the 6th

I need to put into an actual workshop where they deal with things like this.

anyone have any ideas or experienced this before..

bare in mind i've changed the plugs already and checked the coil packs. thanks

Well yeh i guess i wont until until its fully taken apart or some pro looks at it.

i got told that it may even be the bearings or rings...

so lets see how it goes.

if anyone has come across the same problem just pop me a message here so i can have better idea of the issue.

thanks

cheapest option is what jez said, but if you want to build a motor get it pulled out and send it to paul at red r in newcastle he did mine and it is giving me no hassles and he wont get you to buy things you dont need

just kep driving until it wont drive, then rebuild.

i had 150 on cyl 1,2,3,6.

had 100 on 4

and 50 on 5

for about 3 years.....

wasn't too bad.

but, if undriveable, go a second hand engine, maybe even a forged bottom end in the forsale thread?

^^^ Interesting....What was the cause?

When I rebuilt, it didn't look too bad.

Apparently, the cylinders had taper, so I'm putting it down to that.

Had a slight miss at idle.

A very slight vibration under load at LOW rpm.

But when you were up it, couldn't tell.

  • 2 weeks later...

Cylinder

1 - 170

2 - 170

3 - 168

4 - 170

5 - 165

6 and 30 psi ( 45psi wet test )

slight crack in the piston 6.

dont have the time to be running everywhere

any recommendations or anyone willing to give me an exact diagnosis and quote to start it getting fixed.

i was going to put it up for sale before this shit happened.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.
    • My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.
    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
