Hey Guys,

Just finished the tune and the car made 250rwkw

On the way home in 4th and 5th as soon as it comes onto boost it slips.

Pretty dangerous when trying to overtake etc.

Just wondering what you would recommend for around the $500 mark? or am I dreaming for a $500 - 250kw clutch

a good clutch isent cheap, and a cheap clutch isent good. Id put 2k aside, I've been looking around aswell, nismo suppercopper mix seems up there with the best for off shelf, custom jim berry or direct clutch, either way you won't get anything for 500

Are you installing the clutch yourself kasko? If not, I'd budget about 550-600 for labour ontop if you save the oil.

You could also look at the single plate nismo copper mix from perfect run, comes with everything and new flywheel I believe...

I had mine 'made' by K B Clutch Engineering in Sydney, the clutch is good quality and well made, though I ordered a 5 puck, he ran out of 5's and sent me a 6 without telling me, and thought that was on ok thing to do. Apart from that, it's a good service. For around the $400 mark you will get an exedy 4-5-6 puck sprung brass button centre with ceramic pads and then he will make you a custom pressure plate depending on your power/torque levels. Mine is rated at 1300kg clamp pressure / 240kw / 440nm / 6400rpm and cost $400. Seems like the way to go, you would probably get a similar clutch with a higher clamp load. I just finished putting mine in this afternoon and it feels almost like a normal stock clutch with a bit shorter travel, it's very easy.

How is your tailshaft? Good time to change the uni's.

Thanks for the info guys

If I have to spend the money I will but the build has already pushed my bank account.

Sweefu sounds like a good clutch I wonder how well it will hold up.

I would go the nismo but it's nearly 2k for it.

Will either install myself or get Shane to do it at work for cheap as labour.

I would go the nismo but it's nearly 2k for it.

single plate nismo is about 1200, it's the twin plates that are 2k+

If you're only wanting something to hold a bit more than you have now I reckon you would be fine with an npc clutch or something similar mentioned above. I only got a Jim berry because I am plannIng for the future as well as the present.

if you get a chance get the nismo coppermix. Got one in mine @250kw n it is the ducks nuts. So well sprung n easy to use. U can take off softly like a stock clutch or have heaps of clutch feel+grip on a hard launch to get the best take off.

I murder peeps with buttton clutches all the time cos they either bog down or wheelspin. N they have to live with that heavy on-off shit.

I love mine so much it makes me sleep easier..

Contact them and double check to make sure. Might also be worth asking if they are willing to underquote the price of the clutch on the invoice to keep it under $1000 inc post so you don't risk getting hit with import duty and gst...

EDIT: Just looked on the nismo website and it says for the r33 gtst you will need to purchase a Nissan genuine engine plate (Part no: 30411-05u01) and exchange with the existing part.

I think that is the engine backing plate the from the 33 gtr and 33gts4 maybe?

Just make sure you have a new spigot bush and release bearing.. Can't remember the proper name but I call it a release bearing. How much is the Nismo? The clutch I mentioned would be able to be made to hold your power no worries, I know someone running a similar clutch with a higher clamp load with 315kw / 700nm (perhaps he will post up in here) .. If you needed to save some cash, that could be a good way to go.

So all up sweefu it set you back $800?

The nismo from what I could find was around the $1200 mark

If you're not chasing much more power Kasko, I recommend the Exedy cushion button that I'm running at the moment. We have the same turbo / similar power and it's not slipping for me. This clutch has been in my car for years, seen hundreds of hard launches and lots of slippage with daily driving...she's still holding strong after the power upgrade. It is a very friendly clutch, not harsh on take off like a normal button clutch, but it puts down the power if you want it to. Time will tell, but I'm certain others have run it at this power level without issue. Otherwise, there is always the Exedy HHHDB, which many people with 300rwkw+ have run without issue.

    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
