Is anyone intersted in making a trip up to Wakefield Raceway in NSW on either the 16th or 17th May?

Im wanting to go up for either the UAS day, or the SAU-NSW Day on the Monday, depends if i can get the Monday off work.

Its about a 6hr drive form Melbourne...see http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...7897#post807897

yeah, I'll come along to both

:D

Yeh but it aint no 6-hr drive for you...im looking for someone to hold my hand during the drive up!

More then anything want to get a sub 1:10 lap around Wakefield... dont know how good my chances will be but im speding enough money trying :P

I drove down from Syd the other weekend, i got a flat and had all sorts of probs, ended up needing a tow, but i kept a close eye on the speedo, and it would only be a 6 hour drive, as Wakefield is exactly 200kms from my place in Sydney, and if memory serves me right, the total trip from my place to Melbourne was 840kms...

Stops, who needs stops, the excitement of taking the car thrashing will keep you awake, its the drive back that will be tough as i always find track days exhausting.

There are a couple of days at Wakefield in May, bu ti was looking at the 16th & 17th, have a look at the Wakefield website, there will be a day that suits your trip.

mate, sub 1.10 is bloody quick....so good luck.

I've noticed there aren't that many track days down in Vic, so maybe you'll get some ppl to come along.

THere's a few of us staying the Sunday night in Goulburn, let me know if anyone else is interested and we'll try and book it all together.

Hmm... 17th... thats a monday!

Maybe... i might come to watch everyone and meet a few SAU-NSW boys.

you going for just one day Roy? or both?

I can definately make Sunday for a drive... i wouldnt mid seeing wreckedhead get owned.

It'll be something to do on a sunday... or i could get Moday off work.

What is departure times from melb, and when will we be back?

I'll need a jerry can if i do deceide to go lol. I got dreadful economy to say the least

I will know by Friday which of the days i am going to, most likely going to be the UAS day, but if i get monday off work then both.

Duncan i know 1:10s is a tall ask, but i have played with my susp setup so it is more track then street now, got some R compound rubber, and found about50-80rwkws in my glovebox, so if i cant buy a 1:10 or under then i give up. My best lap with the std turbo and road rubber was a 1"13.4, so i have some improving to do

Sleep in my car, or get wildly drunk and have Goulbourn Police throw me in the lock up for the night...or may just stay in a cheapie Motel/pub or same place as Duncan and crew. Like i said ill know this weekend, if you dont want to drive up you can hitch a ride with me...you can help me push it back to Melb!

The wildly drunk option sounds sensational to me ;)

I might be getting a lift

Either

a) i've burst an oil line on my turbo

B) burst a seal on my 2 month old turbo

c) blown the motor

It cant be much other than the above three... i'll know more on Monday :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Still looking to go, but the car has been at the mechanics for the last 3 weeks, (Susp then dyno)...so waiting to get the car back, and also get the clean bill of health, all looks good to go though, should be getting the car back Thursday.

R31Nismoid looks like hitching a ride up with me, no other Vics seem that keen, i think it will be worth the trip for the drinks on Sunday night

    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
