Space Saver Question

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,my R32 gtr has R34 gtr wheels fitted. Now my question is,if I get a flat and put the R32 space saver wheel on the back then the diameter compared to the R34 wheel is different and wont this hurt the LSD diff?Is a R34 space saver bigger in diameter compared to the R32 wheel? If so I will source one,any ideas appreciated, cheers Matt

Have you measured the rolling diameter of your current spare and placed it in front of your R34 wheel for comparison?

It's the transfer case that's at risk if the two diameters are different.

If you have an R32 GTR and get a flat and find the spare is the wrong size you can just pull the awd fuse to put it into 2wd. (Not the case with R33 or 34).

Easiest way to do it is, go to the following link,

fill out the details as far as what size tyre you are running on the car as well as the size of the temp spare.

It will then calculate the rolling diametre of both tyres and give you a comparison on the difference in size between them.

This will then tell you if the temp spare is suitable or not in percentage.

For the temp spare to be suitble, the calculation should give you a difference of between

98% to 102%. (A tolarence of roughly 2mm either way)

Anything greater I wouldn't realy recommend using.
