Its fairly complicated as you need to remove the trans sump and valve body which have around a hundred bolts holding them in. They all need to go back together in the same hole too. Read the instructions when you get the kit and make the decision then, if it seems too complicated get Craig (jetwreck) to do it, or someone local if you aren't in Sydney. It will cost a lot more if you get it wrong...

If your comfortable using spanners it's not that hard at all. One of the easier major upgrades ive done to any of my cars. When I did mine I found it to be quite easy. Just take your time, mark everything you remove and best to have a mate help out so you can double check everything you do.

No special tricks involved, just read the instructions and it's nice and easy. Then you have the satisfaction that you did it yourself.

A lot.

You'll find yourself changing gears much quicker, and a lot more responsively and when you plant your foot the changes will be very sharp and you'll get a little chirp from 1 - 2, sometimes 2 - 3, but in the wet it's anything but a chirp.

When your foots not planted its normal gear changes, but its a very noticable upgrade when you want it to be. Personally I wouldn't recommend installing it yourself. But i'd definitiy recommend getting one.

I had mine installed and a oil change with nissan matic J at my local auto shop for $300, cost me $100 labour to have it put in and i bought mine off ebays was $300 from the USA something like that, but once it was in i get wheel spin till i hit 3rd, it goes off, cherps the tyres all the way to 5th if ur nailing it to the redline on every gear shifts are really solid and fast, but one bad thing i noticed is down shifting, mine does not like it so much gives a noise sometimes (probs me shifting down at wrong times) but other then that its mint.

im getting craig (jetwreck) to install mine would rather someone with alot of knowledge doing this than some local shop. im looking forward to

meeting craig & getting some more tips on what i can do to improve performance.im also getting craig to do the uprev engine management on the V.

I'm interested, although I'm in Perth. What comes in the kit? The Transgo website is hard to get around, but I think the Transgo Reprogramming Kit is what I need. Also if this kit is installed is it neccessary to upgrade the valve body al la MV Automotives?

Sweet put me tentatively down for now. There's a WA authorised distributor according to the Transgo website but their emails are bouncing back. I'll try calling them today to see if they have it in stock as it might be cheaper for me. I'll let you know tonight whether I'll grab one a part of the group buy or not. :)

Yeh the shop i had it done in is not just any mechanic, it was an auto transmission specialist all they do is service auto's and also the RE5 box thats in the V35 is also in a few other nissans so its not a 1 of a kind and they are in cars sold in AUS so they do have experence working with them.

    • How dare you sell your unreliable Skyline and buy a reliable, Toyota/Yamaha car with a strong gearbox, torsen LSD and Toyota reliability. At least you won't need to worry about oil pumps, big catch can, oil restrictors, blowing off power steering belts, sheering off 3rd gear, failing ABS relays/pumps, etc.
    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
