How much is the flex fuel sensor?

I was going to have to pay my tuner to make two maps which is about $600 per map, so maybe it's worth putting that money into a better ECU and then getting the sensor.

Fuel system is being upgraded as well, I've got a 255 walbro in-tank atm, but I'll just be using that to feed a surge and then another pump for the main feed.

I'm buying injectors today, looking at 800cc sards would they be alright?

Forget the Sards. Get ID 1000's. They will idle and drive so much better.

I think my car had 7 different maps in total. They weren't full 'wipe it clean and start again for each' so the dyno time isn't like 7 FULL maps!

It's very worthwhile doing. You get sick of dragging around Jerry cans everywhere. Put whatever you want it and drive off. You don't even notice the car 'doing its thing'.

Is that the Zeitronix? JEM had them in stock at $650 too from memory, i think it was a bit to wire in too....

Depending on the tuner, full flex is not a cheap tune... It is basically the cost of 2 tunes from my experience so far... The wiring in of the sensorts etc has added a bit to the bill too, but at the end of the day for a proper setup it will all be worthwhile... As for the OP asking for a cheap option, there is no cheap option when it comes to flex fuel setup but it is so practical to have if the car is used often

if your just going dual map tunes then PowerTune will charge $1300 for 98 and e85 tune

with my setup, I got the e85 sensor plus the I/O plugin for the Haltech read the e85 signal

with the Flex flex setup similar to Paul's its another $1400 on top which includes the e85 sensor, the plugin for Haltech, labour to hook it all up then extra tuning for various levels of e85

$1800 for haltech

$1300 for dual tune

$1400 for flex fuel setup

$4,500!!! its not cheap lol

Yeah man, wasnt implying that... I meant the cost for my tune is about 2 tunes worth.... The tuning iteself will be very similar to what you have mentioned above :yes:

Yep, its not cheap but its worth it..... The haltech is even more for the 34GTT as its the PS2000 wired in only...

thought link comes with 4bar map sensor internally?

2.5 absolute, so 1.5 bar or 22 psi of boost.

Feel like I should clarify here for the sake of any R34 owners reading; the Link G4 plug in for the RB25DET Neo does NOT have any internal MAP sensor of any sort. I'm guessing this is because the RB25DET Neo has a MAP sensor from factory that you can use, but it is only capable to 14psi. So if you want to run any sort of decent boost level, you need to buy an external map sensor for it as well.

Just had a quick look. The GTR versions have the 2.5 Bar MAP sensor on board. My mistake!

wow thats annoying... you definitely need another map sensor as well with the link... sucky

What's the point of having a content sensor if you're not going to go the whole way?

Then you deserve to break down on the side of the road, leaving this city for that one :P

Realistically though, I'd just switch to my 98 tune when the E gets low and drive up on that. My tuner also believed he could manipulate an ethanol tune so I could putt around on 98 in an emergency / if I really needed to. Not saying flex fuel setups aren't the pinnacle of dealing with ethanol, but there are plenty of ways around spending 4-5k on a proper setup. Justifying that on say, an R33 GTS-T, is difficult.

My last discussion 6mths ago with a name brand workshop that does this work suggested $3500 was the price tag drive in drive out they were targetting (owner supplying jerry cans of course). I am not sure if this is the correct number as it was an off the cuff guesstimate and could prove to be higher in practice.

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
