Shoota_77
Hey guys, I know my clutch is going to fry at some point so going to get something organised in advanced rather than having to wait for 6 weeks while a new clutch arrives. I searched through various posts but couldn't find one that specifically compared the two. The only Jim Berry clutches I've seen are a standard looking diaphragm plate but with a puck type friction disc. Do thy do a multi-plate version? My car will be mainly used on the street but I'll be doing the odd drag run at Calder and also a bit of track play (not full racing) as well. My car currently makes 315kw at the wheels. Hopefully a bit more in the future so would rather allow for that now. I appreciate any opinions or previous experiences. Cheers. 34GeeTeeTee
Hey Ewan, My clutch is on its way to Jim Berry now, if you have some time to talk then give him a call and he will run you through the details... Your clutch should be the same as mine i would imagine, what are you currently running out of interest? The feedback from the Jim Berry users is awesome, there are a lot of haters out there too BUT funnily enough most of the haters have never used one and have stories of a mate of a mates car etc which i tend to ignore. You DONT need to go twin plate for that power level Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/408227-whats-better-r33-gtr-jim-berry-or-nismo-coppermix-clutch/#findComment-6511780 Share on other sites
Hadouken
Ummm... neither Npc 10" sprung button clutch. Running 320kw, holds the launch. And is rated to 400kw Npc for life. Maybe, haha Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/408227-whats-better-r33-gtr-jim-berry-or-nismo-coppermix-clutch/#findComment-6511792 Share on other sites
34GeeTeeTee
Are you on commision? You would be making a fortune if you were lol He asked about the 2 brands so i answered..... NPC 10" clutch is basically the same as what i am getting built by JB anyway..... R33RWKW
I don't know much about the Jim Berry clutches, although have heard if a few going bang on some people while drag racing, but you can't go wrong with the Nismo Super Coppermix (comp model), especially if you are going for power upgrades later on. Im pretty sure RHD Japan have them at a good price still. I got mine for about $2200 landed late last year. You might need to give them a friendly mail them first regarding some help so you don't get stung by customs. One of the best clutches available in my opinion. R33RWKW
Forgot about NPC - What Hadouken said above! GTR_JOEY
Can't comment on the the others but the nismo twin plate copper mix is a great clutch, (currently making 350rwkw but will be pushing 450 soon) very easy to use and holds plenty of power. Even on my old set up of 300rwkw the single plate was holding up to 8k launches. Recently pulled a twin coppermix out of a mates 400+rwkw gtr who has done in excess of 100 launches and we are putting the clutch straight back in as it had hardly worn at all Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/408227-whats-better-r33-gtr-jim-berry-or-nismo-coppermix-clutch/#findComment-6511833 Share on other sites
Shoota_77
Forgot about NPC - What Hadouken said above! Great clutch also You've confused me there!! Hadouken (as per usual!!! ) is spruiking the NPC but you're saying forget about it! Please clarify so my brain can get back to thinking about important stuff.... Lunch.... Joe- Wow, that's an impressive story! 100 launches is enough to test any clutch so they must be pretty bloody tough! 34GeeTeeTee
No, he is saying he forgot about that option..... Should be the same sort of thing as the Jim Berry although i am getting my existing clutch rebuilt so it worked out better for me to go down the JB path, plus his service has been nothing short of awesome! 89CAL
Oops!!! My bad! Ok, NPC in consideration now (to keep Hadouken happy!) Any pics of an NPC setup? No need for Pics Awesome clutch, I've had mine for over 2 years, grips like crazy and never slips. Ring NPC, consider getting the Billet Flywheel as well. Great product for an extra $400ish Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/408227-whats-better-r33-gtr-jim-berry-or-nismo-coppermix-clutch/#findComment-6511880 Share on other sites
33GTRV
Depends on what you are doing with it. If you are going to punish the fcuk out of it, get a JB. If you do the occasional track/drags a few times a year, id go the coppermix comp. Much nicer pedal to work with. Hadouken
Yay. Im happy. But in all seriousness. Is money a factor? The npc is half the price of the nismo. But everybody who has coppermix loves it, same can be said about the npc. I havent heard a bad word about either of those 2. The jim berry special on the other hand, i have heard that with its excessive clamp force that some gearboxes cant handle it. And yes there have been a few occasions where the clutch just cant do it and then rapes itself. Take this as you may, but im not badmouthing any of the above, if i had 2k i would have gotten a coppermix, but i dont regret the npc, so far it has taken 20 launches and daily stop start traffic for 5 months. Gav
I've got a JB twin plate that gets a LOT of launches put through it. It's now on it's 4th year of motorsport and has survived 5 gearboxes (2 OS gearsets, 2 standard and now on a full PPG box with centre plate and billet forks). I bought a Coppermix Comp clutch 6 months ago as a backup, but there are no signs yet that it will be used anytime soon. Shoota_77
Thanks heaps guys, all great info. But you know what, I'm none the wiser!!! That's a good thing though as they all sound fantastic. For what my car is making I think any of them will be fine. I haven't really set a budget but if I can get an equivallent clutch with just as many good reports as the clutch twice it's price then it's a bit of a non brainer really! Only problem is I (think) shat my oil pump today!! Simplest f'ing thing too! Took a guy for a spin, got back to work, being a bit of a dick did a static rev to bout 8000rpm, nek minit, no oil pressure, faaaaaaaaarrrrrrrkkkkkkkkk!!!! That was an expensive piece of stupidity. Could have been worse, might have gone boom at high speed which would be a different story. Hopefully bottom end should be ok. Next decision is how much to do while the engine is out.............
