Hey guys,

i drive a manual 98' 34 NA, drove till the tank was empty and filled it up with 100 premium from united, which i pump regularly.

I got 450ish K's outta my tank before the light went on again.

Just wanna find out if you guys get more or less, is my lead foot too heavy or light?

Sounds about right to me, I think I get a bit less than that; probably between 400-450 when the light comes on (can drive around with the light on though, obviously).

I think I'm averaging 12L/100km or so... I pump 98 only. Not great :/.

Think should really be able to get 10-12. I granny around all the time as well, so dunno haha.

as i say in every fuel economy thread, the fuel light coming on is not a measure of economy as it will come on at a slightly different point in every car. you are best off just paying attention to how many ltires you put in and then using this, with how far you have travelled to calculate your exact fuel economy in Litres/100kms, as this will give you a better indication as to whether you are getting good or bad economy. someone elses light may come on with 5L more fuel in the tank, meaning that they would get about 50kms less than you, even though they may actually be getting the same fuel economy.

plus there are many variables in fuel economy. things like driving style, driving conditions (stop/start heavy traffic, or light flowing traffic. hilly areas. lots of short trips, etc)

The best fuel economy I got out of my R34 while it was NA was about 9.5L/100km

The worst was about 40L/100km

Now that the car is turbo my average fuel consumption has actually improved (when I'm not thashing the hell out of it ;) )

its a 60L tank yes? so when the light comes on you've got say 10-15L still in there, i know for a fact i drove my car to the tuner with the light on and got there with it under the empty line , syphoned all the fuel out ( was doing Eflex) and i got 10L out of it

so if we said there was 10-15L left when you have done 450km then its actually very good economy and around the 10-12L/100km

450km = :cheers:

I did (I wasn't paying enough attention at 7am this morning lol)

About 420ks with 50L with my v8 commodore

And I drive it pretty damn hard + 99% of my driving is in peak hour

Helped by 1400rpm at 80km/h and it accelerates up hills like that

While that may seem thirsty, it's less than the skyline/supra/soarer

And runs 100% fine on 91 octane so the is a 15c/L saving right there :)

ahaha, yeah. coles and woolies fuel (including e10) all the way for my wagon. the most revs my car sees on the way to work is 2500rpm, and that's taking off from the lights. once i'm on the highway it doesn't go above 2000rpm, even when overtaking. got the trip computer to show over 1000kms to empty a few weeks back. that's a little bit optimistic though. i generally get about 670kms before the fuel light comes on, and about 750kms before i actually fill up (and there's still usually about 12 to 15L left in the tank). one day i will take a fuel tin with me and see just how far i can get before it runs out. i reckon i should be able to hit 900kms from the 75L tank. not bad for a hunk of shit with over 250,000kms on the clock

and because it's all highway driving, i do my oil changes at 15,000kms, and the oil still looks good.

You guys have to rev to 2500RPM? Stop revving so damn hard!

I only rev my coon to 2500, maybe 3000RPM if I want to go somewhere f**king quickly.

Otherwise, keep her below 2000RPM all the way, cruise at 100KM/H smack on 1500RPM... And it pulls hills at that :P

Oh, and freeway does 8L/100KM with 4 adults cruising at 110 - 120KM/H, with a few hits here and there.

This, except E39 528i. 1550rpm @ 100kmh. Freeway running 6.6-6.8L/100km. Ha.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
