I just had to hire a trailer to take my car to the shop. I hired on a saturday for 24 hours from an actual shop, not a kiosk at a servo and had Sunday free as the shop was closed on Sun and returned this morning at 8am. It cost $123 with a $100 deposit which I got back. Just make sure you get one with long slide out ramps. Saves time lol. I to towed it with 2.2 turbo diesel Santa Fe. Aside from slow to 60 it did well .

Probably different places have different rates and deposits. The trailer I just took back was 750kg and a total max load of 1950kg inc trailer and loaded car. The company I used with the price I gave was Move Yourself at McGraths Hill/Vineyard near Windsor. Again it was the shop and not a kiosk at a servo.

you guys are lucky...pretty much every trailer I've ever hired has been a deathtrap.

towing a car is about the most dangerous thing you can do on the roads, and rental trailers just don't get maintained properly. bad wheel alignment (swaying), brakes not working, no lights, bad tie down points etc etc. Ask frozenwaffles what can happen :(

If you do have to use one, look for one which is obviously new, and keep the speed down (ie stay off the highways)

Wow, doesn't sound good. But the one I had was good. Stable on Freeway speeds too :)

Same. The trailer I had towed straight, brakes worked, tyres had good tread and the shop attendant made sure all the lights worked before I drove away. It also had 4 tie points 2 front 2 back. I was happy with it. Kept to 90 on the F3.

Yeah I sat on 100 and only exceeded that coming to a hill as even tho it was a 3L turbo Diesal it was struggling with my land barge on the back...

Yeah aim the mirrors down a bit it is helpful...... After a while you forget its there to an extent (Either that or it is actually no longer connected.........Thats bad!) :P

I was lucky as its mostly highway, pennant hills road was the only issue but other than that it was fine :)

Wuss

Try doing Sydney traffic in a truck.

On topic though the last trailer I hired had no brakes and couldn't do over 60 without swaying.

NEVER AGAIN

Where was that hired from?

I think actual hire places are more inclined to look after their trailers, I don't trust the servo ones as there is chances they aren't mAintained between hires?

cool, ive got the same model, 2007 Crdi elite desiel turbo. http://www.eurodb.com.au/used-car-Specification/HYUNDAI/SANTA-FE/ELITE-CRDi-(4x4)/2007/H3707G/

specs say 2 tonn braked weight is MAX- say trailer is 750, and the car is 1.5 tonn- thats a fair bit over in my books but will be driving accordingly.

Really made me open my eyes and be much more aware though.

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
