I wonder if the v35 or r35 afm may be an upgrade, do they have have a longer lifespan?

I haven't heard of the same issues on the forums from Z owners. However the characteristics of the AFM are most likely quite different, and we have no way of tuning the AFM table. Does emanage have AFM table adjustment, or just switch over points?

So were stuck giving the same old advice - if you have a oiled filter (K&N) get rid of it for a dry, clean the AFM in contact/afm cleaner overnight and it might come good, and look for shorts in the wiring to the loom that could cause a short and fry the unit.

What component/s are in there? Probably a diode & resistor, lol.

If someone wants to post me a broken AFM, I'll try to work out if a 'field refurbishing' kit is possible. The components might only cost $2...

I've never had mine go faulty, & I've had it in/out dozens of times when playing intakes. There is something weird going on for those guys who have broken multiple AFMs.

Agree 100%

I've had Rudis car logged, and there was nothing in diagnostics logged, and nothing dodgy going on with the voltage output through the test. It may be a suspect pin or solder within the ECU, or even bad earthing from somewhere. I dunno

If replacing the afm fixes the problem then I guess the afm's are faulty. As far as I know there is no repairing them, I have tried and failed. Grab one of these guy's old ones and have a crack if you like Leon but they are more complex than you think.

Like I said, the best option would be to replace it with a more reliable unit, yes the emanage ultimate does have various maps for z32 afm's etc I believe...

So that pic is our standard AFM pulled down? Didn't know it had circuitry inside, lol. I thought all the smarts were done at the ECU end.

Pretty sure I still have my old one if you want to tinker Leon. Let me know and I'll post it up.

Yeah, send it up Ryan & I'll have a look. The problem could be simple, or not, but it's worth another go at it for the sake of the poor buggers having continual problems. And Scotty, you don't use your welder to fix these :P

I used to do component level electronic repair but this is out of my league, it is potted in a soft silicone and makes getting to the board difficult without damaging it. It is definitely not designed to be repaired, only a couple of components can be de-soldered anyway.

The circuitry would smooth the signal and probably adjust the airflow voltage dependant on temp and perhaps air pressure. It would make manufacturing the ecu and tuning easier.

    • Before I commit to it as I already have the wastegate off the car, would you change it to the 9psi spring instead of the 12, or whack it back on now and try your suggestion?   Edit: Actually I might just swap the spring and see what the logs say after another few pulls, as we know it's still spiking without the Mac valve in the picture so I need more data without the Mac valve trying to combat the issue.
    • Sounds good Hmm suppose the main thing is, how much do you care about this car? The filler doesn't make for a very good water barrier lol. If there was a tiny little bit of rust forming now, that in 3 to 5 years time becomes obvious under the paint (starts to bubble up), would it bother you?
    • I already have the ability to datalog the voltage... what I can't do is correlate it to what the gauge is showing when I'm looking at the data at a later date. Or something like this. Except getting the oil to 125C+ involves me going 200+kmh at the track so you can imagine this is a little tricky unless I do something like note what the voltage is when I am at the top of 5th gear so I have a point to reference on. Drove car today. O2 still reading richer because hopefully not a leak instead of massive restriction I've introduced. Car really doesn't sound like a LS. It's quite strange. Pulled a bit of fuel out up top. This does potentially explain why my spark plugs looked like the car was running pretty over-rich. If I was tuning it to a ~12.7 which in reality was far richer than that in the past. It will be handy to have the dyno WB to compare my WB to to compare notes that's for sure. At this point I'm happy to just sit in the passenger seat and tune the thing given I've got about 7 million hours on the platform lol.
    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.
