Prizes now for 2nd and 3rd!

Also a BBQ meet and greet courtesy of Mitch @ Immaculate reflections!

Read the post for more details

When does the competition close?

Looks like 2 of the 3 winners won't be Skylines.

How on earth some of the cars got 500+ likes is astonishing

Lots of Facebook pimping :)

R32 GTR = 653

BMW M3 = 517

SUPRA = 127

WHITE R34 GTR = 59

BLUE R34 GTR = 50

R35 GTR = 35

BLUE R34 GTR = 30

GREY R34 GTR = 25

SILVER R33 GTR = 23

YELLOW R34 GTR = 11

From 100 to 600 in the space of 11hrs.

Have a look and you'll see why, hence that type of Facebook comp is always marred.

It now has 1,000 likes!!

Last night at 9pm it only had 500.

This is bullshit!!

If the the main prize and award for overall best car in showy, is decided in this way it is wrong - plain and simple.

In my opinion, and this is just mine and I'm sure some guys on the committee won't agree with me but here is my 2cents:

This 'major' prize was only introduced this year at no cost to the club and was generously given by Mitch @ Immaculate Reflections. And this competition was organised by myself with Mitch.

Originally he was going to come on the day and judge for himself. Unfortunately he couldn't make it, so we decided to run this competition. And to be honest if he did attend the prize probably would have gone to SS8_Gohan in any case. So I decided to mix things up a bit to give everyone a chance

Without Mitch we wouldn't even have this prize to give away, so I think everyone should just be grateful that we were able to organise these free prizes. Last year there were just trophies and giveaways and thats it!

There are still trophies to be given out as judged by a panel, so the public only got to get involved in one aspect of the prize pool unlike prior years.

TL:DR

  • Free entry, free drinks, free pizza
  • Free Trophies
  • Free 'major prize'
  • We do our best with good intentions but can never please everybody

In saying all this, because it has caused such commotion this will probably be the last year we run this sort of 'Facebook' style like competition.

I guess the only good to come of it is that the prize is going to a Skyline and not an intruder :)

I'm sorry but what difference would it make?

Intruder or not they are fully paid club members, and they are just as new as yourself.

I agree entirely that the competition should not have gone to facebook (as it kind of defeats the purpose of the judges) but thats the decision of the person donating the prize.

The rule was, most likes wins.

Just because you have a Bayside Blue 34GTR(which is very nice) and you believe it IS the best car there, others may not have the same view.

No need to hate on the other club members because YOU can't have it YOUR way.

Hang on a minute.

At no point have I hated on other club members and at no point have I stated that my car should win, as I would not be that arrogant or pig headed.

All I have done is stated that it is bullshit (maybe to harsh a word) that a photo on Facebook can go from 100 to 500 likes in less than 12 hours and then from 500 to 1000+ in less than another 12 hours - THAT IS ALL.

I then followed up to say that at least the prize is going to a Skyline and even added a smiley face to ensure that it was clear I am happy for the owner of the 32 GTR,

My vent was purely to do with the Facebook "likes" situation...........that is all.

its a childish act.

Harsh mate, harsh - and you say I am the one hating :)

So, just to make it clear, as I do not want to become the one who is "hated"....

  • I respect and love what the club did in arranging the show - was a great day and I am really happy to have somewhere to share my passion with others
  • I respect the fact the major prize is as a result of a valued sponsor - Mitch @ Immaculate Reflections - Thanks :)
  • I have in no way been childish or hate on other members
  • I definitely do NOT think that, as per your comments, "Just because you have a Bayside Blue 34GTR (which is very nice) and you believe it IS the best car there" my car is the best their

I will keep to myself moving forward as I have clearly either been taken out of context or have not communicated very well and misled people in relation to what I was saying.

well then why is it bullshit?

if your car had over 1000 likes, what would your opinion be, that it was bullshit? I think not.

500 likes to 1000 likes, cool he has well known people that are happy to share the link. whats wrong with that?

Your comments are CLEARLY negative towards the others that were winning, because its not a skyline? he's still a fully paid club member, doesnt matter if he drove a hyundai excel, hes still a club member, and it is extremely disrepectful to think its Bullshit if they win.

hence, a childish act.

instead of "venting" why not congrat the people that win..

Sau VIC welcomes everyone. negative comments should be kept in your head.

the SNS was a great day, and there to help new members meet everyone and show off their car(in a sensible matter) even if ash's commodore won, atleast its going to a supporting club member.

and no one hates you. I still want your car.

OK,

I do not want to argue on the internet as it always ends badly.

I respect that everyone has an opinion and would have thought mine would have been accepted as much as the next person - not seen as "childish" and "extremely disrespectful" - but hey, that's the internet :)

As a result, I formally withdraw all my comments and would like to apologise directly to the members of SAU Vic that I have offended, in anyway.

I am disappointed you see my comments as childish, but I will respect your opinion and will not argue against it - we all have a right to free speech.

So, just to be clear...

  • I am sorry if I have offended any of the competitors and respect each and every one of you and did not mean to be "a childish act"
  • My comments about it being a shame if an intruder won was not meant to be "extremely disrespectful" and if it has been taken this way I am sorry and I did NOT mean to be "extremely disrespectful"
  • Sorry if my comments were taken as "CLEARLY negative towards the others"

Again - I formally withdraw all my comments and would like to apologise directly to the members of SAU Vic that I have offended, in anyway.

but nah seriously. i like your car.

and when I said you believe yours is the best car there, i mean it in the way, that everyone believes their car is the best one there (its their "pride and Joy")

wasn't trying to say 'if you think the best car was yours, youre a f**khead mate" lol

I wouldnt seriously want your car, if I didnt like it.

So when can I pick it up?

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
    • I assume clearances were all a-okay?
    • Shock tower brace is in +5Kw....LOL
