Hey guys n girls, My engine is out and getting a full rebuild with forged pistons and everything else that goes with a full rebuild.

Remac in gawler are doing alot of it, plus one of my mates at adelaide jap.

What do you think is a rough ballmark figure with labour n parts and everything else that goes with rebuilding an engine from floor up?

Here is my quote.post-91919-0-87174800-1352892210_thumb.jpgpost-91919-0-03951900-1352892239_thumb.jpgpost-91919-0-75209500-1352892265_thumb.jpgpost-91919-0-22005500-1352892292_thumb.jpg

ouch. that's why I do as much work my self as possible. just quickly what power fig you looking for coz with your turbo set up ya got even with e85 your not going to need rods just balance the standard ones save the dollars standard ones in a neo are same. as gtr. ones any way also might of missed it but what head gasket you running ya need a good quality mls head gasket. what happened to your old engine exactly.

What is the total? Couldn't make it out. This looks like a gold plated build - no excuse for failure here!

As above Neo have GTR rods so would be fine unless you are going for super high kw - what is your target? What turbo do you have in mind?

Conventional wisdom among some of the better engine builders on this forum is you don't need to use a torque plate for RB engines.

WARNING - some people including some workshops that should know better use the wrong pistons for the Neo engine and end up with sky - high compression ratio!

Prices look high to me but then most things are cheaper in NZ. - You could have bought an RB30 short bllock from RIPS!

As the saying goes if you can afford it and they do a good job you will forget about the price in time.

Try buing some of the parts yourself and suppling them

CP pistons can be had for under $1000

I can buy chinese made rods like Eagle for $24USD each....$150 set

(I have some brand new Nismo Rb26/25 rods here in the box. Will sell them for less than the eagle rods they have quoted)

thanks for your input people, i would have no idea how to pull out an engine and put one back in, look at all that wiring. purchased a n1 oil pump today. Once i get my engine back and ran in ima grab a walbro 400lph fuel pump another turbo capable of 600 hp and gonna get my car tuned for around 350rwks thats all my z32 afm will allow ive been told.

you will make so close to that with the turbo you got when you run e85. at least 320 no need to buy another turbo. but your auto box is going to be way past its limit annnnd ya going to need a stall converter

FYI that all comes to a smidge under $9,000.

NOT OVER 9000!

As has been said, you can save $500 on rods and the CP piston set seems a little pricey. In fact, even Ebay has eagle rods/CP piston sets for ~$1250 delivered.

Hang on...

'FIT PISTONS AND RODS: $245.00'

'REASEMBLE ENGINE: $950.00'

SUM-TING-WONG

In all fairness, if you can't do it yourself or aren't confident, it's a lot to spend BUT if it's built properly, it'll be worth it.

A lot of backyard builders out there who have NFI what they're doing so it's not something you skimp on.

Does it come with warranty?

You would be able to source parts cheaper but some builders won't let you supply parts as they won't warrant it.

what has gone wrong with current engine. don't forget you will also need a Bosch 044 external fuel pump and surge tank. also to achive ethat power fig you would need to fig in pon cams as well. but 9 k is just bloody ridiculous. and don't forget to fig in drive train loss of having an auto to achive 350 you would need to be making nearly 400 on a manual. the thing you need to keep in consideration is the supporting mods you need to make it a reliable car as it is your daily driver. I could ring more out of mine but I know I would be leaning on my box(bit worn) and drive line. and also don't forget braking upgrades you will need them . shoot me a pm might be able to help you with some stuff

cheers jase

$9000 (plus some unbudgetted extras) is a lot of money but not a rip off if the result is excellent.

This guy has a $20k budget (albeit for a GTR) http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/413703-20k-for-newrebuilt-engine-options/

lol I've spent under 21k on my whole car. including neo engine swap manual conversion cams everything and the actual purchase price of the car and the result is excellent. I save big dollars by reaserch. and then building cars my self . but I understand not everyone is capable of this . I already have a gtr box in mine but remember the result extra weight you are pushing does load them up. does not need a link he has a s2 and runs a nistune and already. runs a 3076 & will run e85 so really a set of forged piston, head gasket, studs, and cams will safely get him close to what he wants on the limit of the auto.

My radiator tank on the top cracked, car overheated and i ended up hurting a couple of cylinders. Plus the head gasket went. I got no choice really but to do this sort of build, i have also purchased a cooling pro full alluminium radiator so this wont happen again. Im looking forward to a bullet proof engine.

i'd be cautious using a new n1 pump

seems the new ones are pretty random build quality

i also remember someone saying that maybe the neo got a better pump

make sure they use the right restrictors in the head too, neo head has solid lifters so it doesn't need as much oil apparently (compared to r33 rb25)

really it is quite possible to replace engine with another standard neo stag engine chuck in a head gasket and it should behappy making over 300 have a look at the unopened 300kw club on this forum. save $$$$. I've seen so many ppl in my years in the modified car scene spend thousands and thousands of dollars by and years later still have a unfinished project that's made no power., hello truth be known I've done it my self in my younger years.

also with the auto M.Vs do a billet servo to strengthen there boxes (jet r31 has one in his stag) have a chat to mike @ mvs also like I said sus out a small stall converter

Already have the billet piece put in, would love a stall converter tho. What a rough price on one of them installed?

If you are in Adelaide you're in luck - MV autos 1 Stirling Rd Blackwood are the experts - give Mike a ring.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
