Car failure... please. We're not all that simple and naive

Two identical crashes... IDENTICAL... one caused by this mysterious "problem on the left front corner", and the other driver error?

They may be able to kid the idiots in America and Italy, but I'd like to think we're all a little more sceptical here

Clearly Ferrari are trying to keep the pressure of him because he will crack under the media spotlight and ruin yet another constructors tilt for them

you could actually see the front left bouncing around a bit before the 2nd crash.

probably clipped a wall somewhere earlier and something broke.

That's where my one eye might obscure my opinion

So the question is... did it break because a component failed, or because he previously hit a wall/kerb a little too enthusiastically?

Given his history of utter hack-ary, i would agree with the clipped a wall theory

Its a bit unfair for merc to test in season. Even if they didnt gain any data etc from perelli (im sure they would have though) then its still 'x' amount of extra laps and experience on the tires. Im not sure if the merc test driver did the test or the race drivers, but either way still valuable

Didn't Pirelli say it wasn't on the current tyres, and that Mercedes did not know what tyre they were on at any time?

Tthey've also said right from the start that it was both current Mercedes drivers that did the testing - Rosberg and Hamilton.

hmm, yeah the Canada spec tyres weren't "current" at the time of the test were they?

Canada tyre changes have now been postponed to Silverstone/British GP, waiting on the outcome from this by the FIA.

My money is that the FIA will say Mercedes could have gained an advantage on those new updated tyres from this test, and rule that the tyres can't be changed to ensure no-one is disadvantaged.

My 2c is nothing will happen. Suspended sentence. Merc are too big a player as team and engine supplier so politics will get in the way of giving them the reaming they deserve (which is a shame as I am hoping to see Merc have a good few seasons)

They didnt know what tyres there were running, but you know it makes perfect sense for the Mercs to have run a few of the current compounds against some of the compounds proposed for introduction this season. The engineers are not dumb and would have had a good idea within a few laps of what tyres they were on.

There is also the likelihood that some compounds for next year could have been run but only very initial test as they are having troubles with current tyres, need to get their heads around the changed tyre before they spend too much time worrying about next years tyres when testing with an NA engine vs turbo engine etc etc isnt going to tell them a lot

... of course if they continue to employ drivers like Malappropriate, they may as well just use a turbo diesel from a light commercial vehicle

What choice do they have. Look at how much money Lotus lost last year. If Williams did that they would disapper in a heartbeat. Lets hope their new CEO will be better than the last.

    • Checked with amayama and nope, the full S2 manual set is not available anymore. Unsurprising, but still disappointing as the ? on availability gave a glimmer of hope.
    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
