Drivers only get lost in mid-rate teams when the driver is not worthy of a proper drive anyway......

Lotus is a better option the Sauber next year. They are more likely to get increased funding then Sauber. Who knows, in 2 years they might be right at the front. Remember they are ex-Renault, albeit without Flavio and some of the key players

He may very well get lost in a poor team if Sauber build an even worse car next year

It has emerged that Hulkenberg was seriously considered by the Maranello based team as the replacement for Felipe Massa.

But when Ferrari ultimately signed Raikkonen, the Italian squad let Hulkenberg know in the form of a mere text message, the German driver's manager Werner Heinz has revealed.

"After two months of negotiations, I expected at least a phone call," he told Germany's Auto Motor und Sport.

Werner said five lawyers worked for eight weeks on the Ferrari contract, where ultimately the only missing link was president Luca di Montezemolo's signature.

"The contracts went back and forth and in the end only had to be signed," Heinz told the German newspaper Bild.

"Domenicali sent us a SMS at 22.50 on Tuesday," he added.

Heinz continued: "Now Ferrari has signed Kimi we are talking again with Lotus. It looks like they are set for 2014."

Switzerland's Blick newspaper said a return to Force India is Hulkenberg's 'plan B'.

Lotus team boss Eric Boullier confirmed that Hulkenberg is in the running.

"Of course," he told RMC Sport, "as are all the drivers that are available.

"Felipe Massa is also available, so he is inevitably on the list. These are drivers whose management approached us," added Boullier.

I can see Lotus wanting to go for the experience of Massa with the regs changing so much next year. Will Massa be willing to take that much of a paycut? It's probably the only way to stay in F1 other than a thankyou seat at Sauber from Ferrari.

This year lap times at the Singapore circuit will be faster than ever before after changes were made to Turn 10.

Ahead of next weekend's night race, race organisers opted to make changes to the circuit by removing the chicane at Turn 10.

Instead a single-apex left-hand bend has been laid down, which means drivers could head in about 40 km/h faster than before.

Speaking about the change, Fernando Alonso Tweeted: "These days working in the simulator. New turn 10 in Singapore this year, without the chicane of before. The lap is around 1sec faster..."

Meanwhile, the official F1 website reports other changes in that track has been resurfaced at Turns 1 to 3 and also Turns 5, 8 and between 13 and 14. The pit lane has also been resurfaced.

Ferrari has further boosted its technical structure with the signing of Lotus' head of aerodynamics Dirk de Beer.

It would be a poor decision to take Massa because he is experienced? He has driven for two teams. And frankly his understanding of the fat and slow to respond Fezz isnt going to help Lotus where they need lean thinking and targetted feedback. He knows how Sauber worked and how Fezz work...he has hardly looked motivated the past 2 years.

Huk has 3 full racing seasons in F1, one as a tester for 3 different teams. He has gained valuable experience at Sauber this year where he would have been forced to grow and lead the team as the rookie team mate is a hack vs team mates like Di Resta and Rubens....the guy has the right balance of experience and hunger. He will be looking to make the most of the opportunity whilst Massa will walk aroun talking about how the team doesnt have the resources of Fezz.

Its a mute point anyway as i am blindly hoping that Romain comes into his own...one good result and the guy will be unstoppable. Just needs that confidence back. Get it on the front two rows in a decent car and we is a threat

I wouldl hate for Massa to sign for Lotus AND I think its a rubbish idea.

You keep flogging that dead French horse lol.

Why, he is quality! Had his dramas. Showed his class and was beating Hulkenburg in GP2 before stepping up to Renault mid season only to be dumped for Petrov and money. Went off into the wilderness...smashed the 2011 GP2...came out strong early last year and should have won in Spain but for mech failure.

He IS MEGA QUICK. His mistakes...yes...but the guy is such a champ. All smiles, great attitude, doesnt come from money or with big sponsors. His support of the powers to be within the Renault family are because of talent. Hell he working as a bank clerk all up until stepping into the Renaul F1 car.

He may be a rough diamond at the moment but if he can polish up his speed....he will be special in the right car. LOL and I like backing a nice guy!

KImi is...but you need someone to barrack for. There have been races where Romain has been told to move over and others where he has compromised his race to give Kimi max points. He isnt running round sooking...just moving over for Kimi in what, 2 of the last 4 races?

Felipe Massa has revealed that he is in talks with Lotus about replacing Kimi Raikkonen while he has also had "contact" with McLaren.

Contact with McLaren. To do what? Organise a tour of the museum? Admittedly now they have signed up a Mexican sponsor than can dump Perez but why would you replace him with the only bloke in the whole field who is less capable????

I am in contact with lots of people. They generally tell me to get farked but I am in contact with them. I refuse to follow Kimi to Fezz so need to hope Lotus sign someone in the second seat who I can get behind. I would hate it to be Massa. Would rather the seat go to Valsecchi or soem young punt who may or may not be fast. You would have to have rocks in your head to not take Hulk if you were Lotus,

There was some talk that Smedley is going to Williams, who have been recruiting some good technical people ahead of next year. I like Bottas but can see them signing a Massa and putting Bottas out to pasture for a year.

Much the same response as I get then.

Hoping Williams can bolt together something that actually works next year. Cant remember a case in recent history when a team went backwards so quickly in the space of a season. Well other than McLaren maybe. Bottas brings in coin and the team think well of him. Not sure they can say that of Massa. Hell they gave Barichello the arse because of Sennas dollars so why sign Massa?

    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Comparison of the 2: Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
