Came across this nice article, published last Saturday. Legend Jim Richards talks about racing the HR 31 GTS-R back in the day, and then gives his impressions after driving it again at Calder Park...

Video embedded of the interview is in the article too, but unfortunately you can't hear the car itself. Still a good read. :)

Yeah good that he still looks back on the old HR31 fondly. Says he regards it as an equal to the (R32) GT-R to him, and interesting how he likened it to a larger version of the BMW M3 (E30).

Would be awesome to see him race that chassis competitively again.

Great find :)

I love the phrase "slight hiccup with the fuel pump" + Fred Gibson telling off Win Percy hehe...

Interesting how he'll drive the HR31, but won't drive the R35. It shows 'Gentleman Jim' IS sentimental.

Great to see John finally stretch its legs at Calder. My crappy new job meant I couldn't go out and play fan boy. I want to be cool like John when I grow up. He had a garage if cool cars and punts them will.

The R31s kicking around are credis to their owners as they see far tidier than the Sierras etc. But Johns car is that little bit nicer again

Awesome news for Nissan fans. Next year will see Nissan throwing a fair wack if support behind the R31 as well as V8....guess they are trying to promote their motorsport heritage.

Some old names coming back , some cool pieces of kit to go with cool cars...now to see who buys the Winfield GTR so Jim can flight it in the R31 complete with RB20 goodness

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
    • What do they look like right after you've tried to start it with everything connected? Also post photos of what they actually look like.
    • Also wanted to say, my new spark plugs are blackened looks like it's very rich. I have splitfire coilpacks but stock coilpack loom and ignitor. I tried directly grounding the ignitor ground to body as well.
