Otay, question...

I have 1 X R33 GTS-T S1, off the rd for past 18 mths, had a blow by and hence ruined #1 piston. Only gear on the machine was FMIC, Zorst, BOV, and Air Filter...I now have a set of Wiseco forged pistons std size as I have been informed that there was NO bore damage. I want to know, who in Sydney is going to do an AFFORDABLE but decent job of putting the pistons in, cleaning it up and getting the damn thing going again? I have only the std turbo and computer, dont want anything different yet. Suggestions on who, guesses on how much I'm looking at to get it done???

Okay but are they expensive?? I'm not being a tight arse but really just want the car fixed so can I sell it.

Ask Brendan (B-Man) about his experience with the rebuild at UAS, then give UAS a call to find out what they charge.

I got recommended a place that does 1000hp engines for those high speed bridge to bridge water ski race boats. From what i've been told they are very good and have a lot of experience building engines. I think you have to remove the engine from the car yourself and drop if off there.

If you want more info I can ask.

sure, talk to Steve over at Just Jap, mine was less turbo and flywheel (since it came from an auto), no puter. you of course do not end up with a freshly rebuilt engine, but that may not be much of a problem when you are selling it.

not sure at this stage, our race team has a deal with them. However, others on here (eg Fatz, Blitz) have used them for other mechanical work and found them very competitive, I'd suggest giving them a call on monday

Why are you putting forged pistons in an engine that is just going to be put back in to be sold ??

Sell the forgies, Buy a second hand engine and replace - you will get better value that way.

Have you got a quote from UAS for the work ?? Why do you think they are expensive ??

Yeah Just Jap & Give Nath a call - he's a good bloke.

Sorry to be off topic but I didnt wanna start a whole new thread, and Z32 has the same blow by problem. Well here goes:

My car had a really bad case of Blow By where it was smoking (bluish) out the exhaust at anything past 4000RPM and a fair bit too, cause I would look in my rear view and the cars behind are engulphed in it, and there was oil seeping out of the boost controller.

I ran it for around 1000kms really easily (nothing over 3000rpm) and it seems to run really really smooth now, no smoke any more even to 6000rpm, I was contemplating doing something about it, but should I bother now?

Dezert you lucky prick, mine was the same and I could still drive it however I didnt think it was going to last too bloody long, I had EXACTLY the same happen, bluish smoke at anything over 4K etc, but WHEN mine blew initially, I stopped and opened bonnet the disptick had blown out of the tube, there was oil fu(king everywhere, there appeared to be a crack in a manifold somewhere as there was an enormous "shhhhhhhhhhhhh" noise that increased in volume with rev's, there was a rubber pipe split form a sensor, don't know which sensor though, driver side and basically small black boc couple of inches all round on the firewall...drove for two days afterwards, from Penrith into the city and back then Penrith to Kurrajong and it BARELY made it, so pulled it apart and ready to do something about it now :-)

Well not exactly Dez, getting a bottom end and throwing the head, turby, computer etc on to it and then down the track going to slowly rebuild the bottom end of my old motor and slowly just buy all the bits and pieces, build it right up, then rip out the crappy engine and throw the beastly one in anyways that's the plan :-)

    • But seriously, can we ask for the results of the "tip a bottle of metho into a nearly empty tank" experiment?
    • Hang on. Let me get this straight. The desire is to have coilovers, BC in particular, to be MORE comfortable on Sydney roads than stock suspension? Well, that's obviously not right. BCs have crude damping design at the very best, and typically hard spring rates. BC stands for Billy Cart. And then, the desire is to put in some shitty old worn out stockers, to get it blue slipped and then put the BCs back in? And then.....what? Not worry about getting pulled up by the Plod? Because you seem to have raised a worry about paying for engineering (which actually does solve all your legality problems) and still getting pulled up.... but the only problem there is that if/when that happens you have to show your paperwork at the inspection station. Whereas, if you just swap in borrowed shitty old stockers to get it slipped now, and then you get defected in the future, you have to go find more shitty old stockers then too. You course of action looks like this set of options: Buy brand new stock type dampers, and springs. probably cost a bit more than $1k all up, but will last for the remaining life of the car. Put them in, pass inspection, drive on them forever more. Hell, they could even be really nice Bilsteins and Kings or other lower&stiffer springs if you wanted. Get the car engineered as is. ~$1k. Buy new Shockworks coilvers (or MCA) and also pay for engineering. You're spending a lot more here. But these will be the best things that you could drive around on.
    • Might be worthwhile hitting up Facebook's groups, I know most of them contain terrible people and scammers - however you might be able to find someone that's in Sydney with factory suspension you could purchase and/or hire. Just do not send any form of money anywhere, in person cash only.
    • Thanks @Duncan Ride height is fine. I think it's almost stock tbh. Happy to share a pic. I don't actually have a regular mechanic as haven't lived in Sydney too long. Could you or anyone recommend any shops in Sydney?
