what are you looking to spend? budget wise? way better options than an rb25 turbo but depends on what you want to achieve/spend/already done

RB25 is the cheapest upgrade, but a long way from the best. You still end up worrying about whether it will spit its turbine, and it is obviously a very old turbo for the money. Someone else's secondhand highflow may be a bit of a gamble, but would be the next best option (in terms of $$ and possible performance) as long as it is a reputable one and not a mystery spec. Then from there you can only really consider a new highflow, like the Hypergear. That would be the most $$ you'd want to spend, and will get you the best result in terms of performance and life expectancy/reliability.

Bolt on with less lag than stock for $1000. I don't see how this is possible. The rebuild for my highflow with a braided oil line from Hypergear was about $1000. I assume it's laggier than the stock one since the stock one has a ceramic wheel and the highflow has steel. Response is still pretty good for a 2L, but if you want 230rwkw assuming 98 fuel I'd say the highflow of an RB25 turbo would be the way to go, same cost I think as the RB20 high flow, but will be laggier again.

LESS lag than stock but want a larger turbo?

What ever turbo you put on it wont feel as good as it could be without a tune so keep that in mind.

This is very true. Even the rb25 will increase boost onset by 750-1000rpm or so. I ran an rb25 turbo on my rb20, and whilst it was a pretty good upgrade over stock, i found myself needing to upgrade again a few months later on due to wanting more power. Your rb25 turbo will get you a safe 180(+/- 10) rwkw on stock injectors.

I don't mean to sound like a broken record mate, but don't forget supporting mods if you have none to date (ie, fuel pump, clutch, engine management, etc) If your budget is just for the turbo alone, then highflow is the way. But if you still need to tidy up the other supporting gear too your $1k budget wont stretch too far.

I got few things, nisstune, splitfires, boost controller, wallbro fuel pump, big cooler, and have gtr injectors sitting in the cupboard, im trying to put them in at the same time as a z32 afm new turbo and tune, I just got no idea about good turbos....besides ebay and gumtree I dont even know where to buy a turbo....fish out of water

Thats good man, you sound like you're almost sorted. Is the car still on a stock clutch? If so you'll find it'll be slipping after a power up.

I highly recommend a Hypergear atr43, for price and ease of fitment!

Save up for a tad longer, and you wont regret it.. rather than getting a chinese ebay turbo or s/hand rb25.

For high flowing its physically still the stock turbo with larger and steel wheels. So it will be a drop in replacement. The ATR43SSxx with .60 comp housing would require a metal induction pipe (must have for high performance either way) and a 90 degrees long legs silicon reducer from 2.5 to 2 inches. Braided oil line is usually supplied with a high flow or a brand new turbo.

K can you pm me some prices including all the mods that need to be done on the atr 43 ssxx thanks

Personally , i would never put a 25 turbo on a 20 again after the last 3 that i've fitted have felt far worse than the stock turbo . For the mods you've listed you have , i would aim for either a kando td05 18g , td06l2 20g or what hyper gear stated above (which would be the easiest to fit) , another option is the kkr/jjr430 seem to work well on the lil 20 (flame me all you like , in my experiences they are better than a hks gt2530) . All comes down to how much you want to pay :) . out of all of those turbos , the jjr would be cheapest over all to have on your car running , i'm not sure on the price of the hypergear but expect the 2 kando (trust copies) to cost $1200 upwards (fitted) depending on who you know and how much you can do yourself.

... am looking for bolt on turb upgrades,

Does not equal

.... td05 or td06

I think the TD06 is a ripper of a setup but is a long way from a bolt up and is really a 260rwkws option. If you want bolt on then its hard to go past a hi-flow using the housings that all your piping currently bolts up to

    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
