Abo Bob
a Ship carrying 3000 Hyundais and 1000 used Japanese cars has sunk south of Singapore after colliding with a supertanker... I guess this confirms that all Japanese cars get flogged off overseas eventually. I hope no one had a car on board. JimX
Are you sure the Hyundais weren't intentionally thrown overboard as boat anchors? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/42054-ship-sinks/#findComment-861069 Share on other sites

lwells
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/05/23/...5250864321.html Was bound for Germany. God only knows why any German would want a Korean car considering their domestic producers. LW. knore
How the *** do you colide with a supertanker? Its not like u wouldnt see it coming! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/42054-ship-sinks/#findComment-861495 Share on other sites
Steve
have you ever been through the mallaca straights? it really is amazing it doesnt happen more often. its not like the ships can just put on the brakes and stop in 100m. I was heading into singapore once (sailed in there a few times), and at 45 degrees to port and starboard or the bow, I counted over 90 contacts, then I gave up. docile
How the *** do you colide with a supertanker? Its not like u wouldnt see it coming! Surprisingly its fairly easy for larger ships to collide. Problem is that they are very hard to manouvre. You just cant turn them around or stop, it can take a long distance (kilometres) Often they come across each others path's at fairly late notice and in heavy seas, or fog its all over. In really heavy seas its possible to loose sight of big ships very easily. Commercial ships are alot different to control than a small tinny or even a 60ft charter boat! raz0r$harP.UK
that actually happened last week..and it was only about 100 japanese second-hand cars..still a shame though. I had a friend last week whose car managed to make it safely to Australian shores, only to have a container accidentally dropped on it. doh! 4door_Sleeper
I have heard that depending upon the type of insurance you take out when shipping you car out, that you can also be held financially responsible for the cost to collect the sunken (sp?) car. I guess this only applies if it sinks in a shallow boat lane. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/42054-ship-sinks/#findComment-862256 Share on other sites

knore
I thought in the 21st century we'de atleast be able to steer ships properly I dont know about you, but when moving at like 10 knots in a ship over 100m long. Ide feel pretty stupid if i crashed. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/42054-ship-sinks/#findComment-862288 Share on other sites
