The only timing you need to be concerned about is base timing at idle. In general, the ECU expects the engine to idle with timing around 15BTDC. It assumes that this is set correctly, and all other timing is based on base idle timing being correct.

As for the dodgy fuel, if you filled up shortly after they received a delivery, then you might have got some crap that was stirred up during the tanker filling the underground tank.

Not entirely true. The timing at idle will change. You need to disconnect the TPS (from memory) on r33's to put it in base idle and it should sit at the base timing then. As long as your idle isn't going nuts it should be fine. 15 degrees is what it needs to be set to

If you have a STD ecu then it takes care of the rest. If not you will need to take it to a tuner to get the timing modified

Sounds like you have AFM issues. Check the AFM plug. Do you have an oiled air filter?

    • You'd want to cap off the re-entry back into the dump too. Just something flat that can be held on by the Vband.

    • Looking at the photos, you could easily just drop this pipe and dump into atmosphere  Just 1 or 2 quick hits for data acquisition - if have a heat shield material and/or sheet metal, maybe just use wire/metal cable ties and attach it in a way to deflect heat from melting nearby wires.
