I'm looking a getting a new set of tyres from tirerack, the Michelin pss has been very good in the tests they have run, anyone run these?

Other contender would be Dunlop direzza zII which is next model to z1 star spec

Car will be used mainly on wknds, running around 320kw, and would like decent grip in the wet as well

Comments....

Michellins Pilot SS are top quality. Durable and provide excellent grip and steering feedback. Had them on my car running 300kw atw.

Expensive tyres but worthwhile and better quality than dunlops.

Buy Michelin super sport

Very very good tyre running on my GTR 350kw done three track days and daily duties for over a year now still heaps of tread left

Will be buying again once I need new tyres

great to hear, its on special at the mo, so may as well get something decent

At costco now, $500+ for pilot sport 2, they dont have pilot super sport on their system, didnt have 165/60/14 for my trusty corolla either ;)

Haha That's because I was looking at the Costco United States. My bad :)

These will be my next tires iv heard only great things about them. My last set were toyo r1r and they were really awesome grip wet and dry but they wear so quick. Keen to try these mainly because of really good performance and life.

I think its only prudent to remember that these tyres are ace for their wet / dry performance

If you're after dry / track performance then the Yokohama AD08 is top dog ...http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/yokohama-advan-neova-ad08-page-8

Tire Rack’s Rogers spends half a year managing a fleet of seven test cars and more than 100 test drivers. He said that on any given day with a single driver, the Michelin, Yokohama, Toyo, or Hankook might finish quickest in a dry autocross because of variances in driving styles. But, on average, the Yokohama ends up the winner, meaning more drivers go quicker with this tire than any other. They had better, for $199 apiece.

The Yoko’s podium finish comes down to its dry performance. Geswein effused, “This tire thrived on driving the dog snot out of it.” Every aspect of this tire’s dry performance (steering, grip, feedback, recovery, and precision) was strong.

I've been thinking of the PSS for when my current tyres wear out, didn't know many skyline owners had been using them. Was tempted by the AD08s, but think their low tread wear would mean they get munched on the street.

BWRGTR - let me know how you go, as I had no idea they were on special. Kind of insane considering locally they are around 500/corner.

Lol im not a time attack boy but i am an evo driver now :whistling: Shit didnt realize the pilots are 300TWI the soft tread doesnt bother me as its my weekender... Im bit doubtful of the Ventus wet weather performance i want an all weather tyre... Might just get myself some nitto invos again as I know they are a good all rounder and quiet on the road

so you ended up getting them from tirerack ? What did you pay including postage and what ones did you end up going with ? PM if you would like? Also have you checked the manufacturing date on them ? Are they fairly fresh ?

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
