lol yeah it's not as if people don't do the same farking mods anyway. Oh you went with -7s instead of -5s? You're an "individual"!

Save the "make it your own car" bullshit for aesthetics. Unless you're custom making mechanical parts, it's been done before.

If your going to mod anything at all on it, then go modded already. Let someone else take the financial hit. Just make sure you research the car as you should with either type and know what you're buying.

Modded doesn't have to mean 700kw, single turbo, HKS track suspension beast. (Although do want!)

There are some really well put together modded GTR's that would ride/drive similar to a stock car, but you usually have more power and in a lot of cases, better than stock parts.

It's a no brainer.

As per the above few opinions. I agree.

I drove lot of trackdays back in the day on including DECA's. The car was imported with all of the mods I wanted at the time. Drove it and changed a few things over the years.

In the end I never had to replace the engine, clutch, gearbox, diffs etc. All I upgraded was brakes, wheels and suspension in 7 years of owning it.

Why buy a stock car when for the same money or 5k-10k more you can buy a car with 20-40k worth of mods done to it. If you don't like certain parts sell them and buy what your after. It doesn't cost much to swap parts. It costs a lot to buy them outright!

Lots of you say standard cars are better but you end up with a weaker engine, turbos, clutch, diff etc than a modified car. I don't get your logic as all of your standard parts will break or need replacing due to power restrictions. So your going to be buying the parts anyway and spending money.

Why not just buy a complete wisely modified car and drive it instead of it always sitting in a workshop costing you money never being driven.

I know which I'd prefer....

Guessing like 99% of GTR owners you won't work on the car yourself so add this up.

Turbos installed $3000

PFC, AFM's and injectors $3000 inc tune

Forged pistons, oil pump etc $7000-$10000 installed

Twin or triple clutch upto$3000 installed

100mm FMIC $1000

Oil cooler $500-$1000

Exhaust $1000-$3000 with dumos

Wheels forged 18x10 with good tyres $3000plus

Brakes $2000-$5000

Suspension $2000-$5000

Gauges and boost controllers $1000plus

Plus all the other little bits and pieces.

All so you can have a car worth 5-10k more. Or the other options is as others have said. Keep all the standard parts and put it back to stock as I have done in the past to several cars. The owners were all warm and fuzzy thinking they bought a stock never modified car. The truth was....we all know the answer to that :)

I never buy toys so I can tell my mates about how cool it is and baby them around because I can't afford to have them break.

Oooo such an easy question to answer... if you plan to modify it, just go talk to any gtr owner - theyll tell you to buy a clean one that's already modified. You'll save a truckload of cash. I once read that you couldn't afford to own a GTR unless you could afford to buy 2. I've owned mine for 10 months, bought it with some clean mods and already spent another 20k on it which I'll never see again

yep very true i baught mine with all the supporting mods and still spend a sh*t load more lol its addictive :(

definitely modded over stock! If you dont like the mods on it its much cheaper to sell those parts and buy the ones you want than to buy them outright. A lot of very good points being made for modded so i think the choice should be very simple for you. Now stop being scared and go buy the baddest mo fo gtr you can!

Well, guess what, i bought a "stock" GTR. Stock as they said, but until you don't open the engine, you never know....

And it was a bit too late i read the comments about stock vs modded, but hey, thanks a lot for all your opinions!!!!

    • I have no hard data to report, but I have to say, having driven it to work and back all week, mostly on wet roads (and therefore mostly not able to contemplate anything too outrageous anywhere)..... it is real good. I turned the boost controller on, with duty cycle set to 10% (which may not be enough to actually increase the boost), and the start boost set to 15 psi. That should keep the gate unpressurised until at least 15 psi. And rolling at 80 in 5th, which is <2k rpm, going to WOT sees the MAP go +ve even before it crosses 2k and it has >5 psi by the time it hits 90 km/h. That's still <<2.5k rpm, so I think it's actually doing really well. Because of all the not-quite-ideal things that have been in place since the turbo first went on, it felt laggy. It's actually not. The response appears to be as good as you could hope for with a highflow.

    • Oh, it's been done. You just run a wire out there and back. But they have been known to do coolant temp sensors, MAP sensors, etc. They're not silly (at Regency Park) and know what's what with all the different cars.

    • There are advantages, and disadvantages to remapping the factory.   The factory runs billions of different maps, to account for sooooo many variables, especially when you bring in things like constantly variable cams etc. By remapping all those maps appropriately, you can get the car to drive so damn nicely, and very much so like it does from the factory. This means it can utilise a LOT of weird things in the maps, to alter how it drives in situations like cruise on a freeway, and how that will get your fuel economy right down.   I haven't seen an aftermarket ECU that truly has THAT MANY adjustable parameters. EG, the VAG ECUs are somewhere around 2,000 different tables for it to work out what to do at any one point in time. So for a vehicle being daily driven etc, I see this as a great advantage, but it does mean spending a bit more time, and with a tuner who really knows that ECU.   On the flip side, an aftermarket ECU, in something like a weekender, or a proper race car, torque based tuning IMO doesn't make that much sense. In those scenarios you're not out there hunting down stuff like "the best way to minimise fuel usage at minor power so that we can go from 8L/100km to 7.3L/100km. You're more worried about it being ready to make as much freaking power as possible when you step back on the loud pedal as you come out of turn 2, not waiting the extra 100ms for all the cams to adjust etc. So in this scenario, realistically you tune the motor to make power, based on the load. People will then play with things like throttle response, and drive by wire mapping to get it more "driveable".   Funnily enough, I was watching something Finnegans Garage, and he has a huge blown Hemi in a 9 second 1955 Chev that is road registered. To make it more driveable on the road recently, they started testing blocking up the intake with kids footballs, to effectively reduce air flow when they're on the road, and make the throttle less touchy and more driveable. Plus some other weird shit the yankee aftermarket ECUs do. Made me think of Kinks R34...
