sonicii
I have been using 95 for ages without any pinging, so I would say something is wrong if it is pinging on 98. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423199-ping/#findComment-6809843 Share on other sites
SMOKEYV35
should not ping unless something is hugely wrong. knock sensors should be kicking in way before any of this happens. is the car laggy under acceleration? done any intake mods recently? colin.ssc
Intake done in December. I think the ping was before the intakes went in. Even if it was after...wouldnt the ECU be picking up the different intake and adjust accordingly? I reset the ECU a couple of times since then. Ping only at low revs...1.8k to 2.3k? higher revs/speeds no ping. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423199-ping/#findComment-6809879 Share on other sites
scotty nm35
Have you changed the plugs recently? I would have a guess and say you have a slightly blocked injector, or you're fuel pump is faulty. Have you changed the fuel pump? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423199-ping/#findComment-6809897 Share on other sites
colin.ssc
Nope, have not changed spark plugs/fuel pump at all. Got the car Nov 2012. Car is a 2007 V36. Got it with 36k kms on the clock. I'll try United P100 and see what happens. Will try to clean MAF and throttle body on the weekend and proceed to spark plugs and fuel pump if all fails... Is there anything I am missing? Should I try stock air intakes? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423199-ping/#findComment-6809912 Share on other sites
SMOKEYV35
I'd be getting the codes read. If it really is pinging, that is not a good thing - engines will only tolerate that for so long before they say 'enough!!' LineItUp
Maybe try running some Subaru upper engine cleaner through it? Get rid of some gunk built up in there (and give you a nice clean intake manifold while you are at it - might not fix it, but for under $20 it is worth a try) My V35 ran beautifully afterwards Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423199-ping/#findComment-6810137 Share on other sites
scotty nm35
If the intakes are leaking after the afm's it will cause it to run lean... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423199-ping/#findComment-6810143 Share on other sites
Nightcrawler
It also depends on where you bought it as to whether it really has 36k on the clock - it costs under $100 to get this changed. If you have more km on the clock, there are other things that could be more built up in the engine or things that could be wrong. Obviously at 36k it should be basically a brand new car ... colin.ssc
Ok ill try checking the AFM and the cleaner. I dump in Nulon Fuel System Cleaner and 44l of P100 last night. Lets see what happens over the next few days. I bought the car on auction from Japan. It was checked for genuine KMs by computer system. Whether or not it's genuine, can't really be that sure but yes essentially the whole car looks brand new and nothing was modded or been touched. junkie
My 35 has had it. I have a well tuned ping ear after trying to eradicate it from the wife's Mirage for a few months. Seems to happen when feeding it 95 RON but improves a lot on 98 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423199-ping/#findComment-6811639 Share on other sites
colin.ssc
When you said improves alot...you still have that problem? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423199-ping/#findComment-6811779 Share on other sites
junkie
Yeah, its not 100% gone, I can still occasionally pick a faint trace of it here and there, especially low rev/high load situations Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423199-ping/#findComment-6812748 Share on other sites
colin.ssc
Do you have any mods? I've plugged in a OBD2 scanner and it said timing error too high. I am guessing it's caused by my intake. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423199-ping/#findComment-6812836 Share on other sites
junkie
Could the the timing yes, one of the more common causes... Mine has zero mods, its just my daily and I haven't had it for long, but being a high comp engine with Japanese ecu tuning I'm not hugely surprised by the ping on crappier fuel. But I will look at spark plugs and intake clean soon The Mirage on the other hand has been driving me nuts. I have changed the plugs, plug leads, dizzy cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter, checked the timing, three rounds of intake cleaning (two at home and one with a pro machine) and full bench injector clean with new o rings etc... yet, still pings Next step - colder plugs and oxy sensor. No luck with cheap OBD2 adaptor either Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423199-ping/#findComment-6813062 Share on other sites
