An Evening With Jim Richards And Fred Gibson - 18Th July

Recommended Posts

Proudly bought to you by Shanons insurance, QLD Raceway and SAU QLD

A once in a lifetime opportunity has been presented to the club to co host a banquet evening with guest speakers in the persons of Jim Richards and Fred Gibson. As most of you are aware Jim drove the all conquering gtr's to unparalelled success in the early 90's capturing drivers championships and Bathurst wins along the way.
These amazing race cars were prepared by none other than Fred Gibson and his team to a standard not found even in Japan at the time.

It is doubtful that there would be a skyline following to the extent we enjoy today without these guys lighting up Australian racetracks and the imagination of car enthusiasts like ourselves so come along and relive the part of Australian motor sport history that inspired a good many of us to follow the skyline marque.

WHAT...An evening with Jim and Fred including a banquet dinner and oratory by both Jim and Fred.

WHEN...thursday 18th July 7pm

WHERE....The function room at Lakeside Raceway.

COST.... Members $50.00 Non members $80.00

DRESS....Neat casual

130 seats are available so first in best dressed. Anyone is welcome so bring your friends and or family along for what will be a memorable evening.

As an added attraction Shanons have offerred a very special prize to one lucky winner. Anyone who gets an insurance quote from shanons on the night will go in to a draw to win...wait for it......HOT LAPS IN THE WINFIELD GTR WITH JIM DRIVING..... How good would that be.
Jim is in town courtesy of Shanons for the lakeside classic on that weekend 20th/21st July (2days after the banquet) the prize winner must be availalble at the time to claim the ride.

The club has been invited to be the feature club on the Sunday for the event. We have been asked to fill the apron in front of the function room with skylines so make them shine and come along, all skylines are welcome.
This will also be a great opportunity for the club to promote itself to the public. There will be a big crowd on hand if last years classic is anything to go by.

Remember first in best dressed.

Sincere Congrats re: stitching this up! You'll have a wonderful evening - and most memorable.

Our 2010 & 2011 ones were sellouts as yours I'm sure, will be :)

There must be more people interested in this than just a handful. This is the heart and soul of Nissan Motorsport in Australia we are talking about here guys and gals, it doesn't get much better than this!

Workshops will buy tables of 10 and the boss claims it on his tax.

(This is how Steve-0 and I sold 70 in 5 days)

Ideal time to market this idea with 3 weeks to go before June 30.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.
    • My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.
    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts
    • Bunnings would have just handed you your money back on that one!
    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
