They don't have to write a report because the theory is what is wrong about ensuring a car is roadworthy? Ambiguous? Defect it and let the owner find out if it should have been!

Good luck with it. Last time I was defected the cop was a real prick about it, I was idling through a roundabout in 3rd minding my own business. I was polite but he certainly wasn't, torch in the car and face asking me what things are doing in the car, etc. This was ACT. Most of the time cops are polite but you remember the bad ones, especially if they give you a defect.

Time before that was a vehicle inspector in a car park! Should have just driven off.

i give all police the chance to treat me respectively, because some are normal people and dont abuse the badge.

i was once defected, i asked him what mechanical qualification do you have to know what part is illegal, he told me i dont need any of that "i suspect" blah

i thought part engineering was to show particular modifications are safe and with in the road saftey ect?

i guess the frustrating thing is day off to clear and 50 odd bucks..

i think they really need to tighten the rules across AUS, i know lot of ppl who put claims in to ACT about false defects thats why inspectors are out in ACT with police.

i havnt experience them but have been told they are actually better to deal with then the police specially if ou have a engineering cert? i have only been told this.

Pod filters and intercoolers kill, not poor drivers. The Police must do their up most to protect citizens from these harmful modifications by issuing fines.

It makes me sleep better knowing our tax dollars are going to such enforcement programs rather than kicking drug dealers doors in and putting multiple DUI offenders behind bars.

If it was a Federal cop, they can book you in any state and issue you with any infrengment. I have NSW everything (Certs and all) but if pulled over in ACT everything is valid given they're feds. Whereas if I was booked in VIC, with all NSW certs and rego, I may be let off.

My brother has been let off a few times with his car given it was ACT Rego / licence etc.

goodluck nonetheless. I've been hearing a lot of people getting done.

Bit late to the party, but I need to correct some big misinformation here.

The Australian Federal Police have two branches effectively - Community Policing (which are the police you see around the ACT enforcing ACT law) and Federal Agents.

Federal Agents can only enforce federal law, they cannot enforce state laws such as traffic offences.

Community Policing can only enforce the territory they are deployed ins law, e.g. the ACT. ACT Community Policing AFP members are sworn in as "special constables" in NSW where they can pursue and arrest someone that has committed a crime in the ACT into NSW. There are *a lot* of restrictions around this as well.

So there are no "Federal cops" that roam around the country defecting cars in any state. AFP can only defect cars in the ACT (or anywhere else they do Community Policing), Federal Agents cannot enforce local state laws (without an invitation to cooperate with that states local police force).

I cant believe a cop could defect you on a factory stock standard car.

Mate I would be arguing in court for sure. One point I would be certain to make is that cops are ill trained to do their jobs and dont know what they are doing.

I would also make the media aware. ; )

Today Tonight love that s*&t! LOL

My point is, is that if they do their jobs incompetently, i.e. not knowing a pod filter from a stock airbox etc. then this must be highlighted. Only then things might change.

Cops don't like bad press!

And just for the record, I am all for cops, I have many friends that are in the force (both NSW and AFP down here), but they must know their job.

They can not claim to "up hold the law" if they actually don't know what the law is!!

my ******** is with AFP here in canberra - he has no interest in modifyed cars - but hates the system and has had plenty of arguments with traffic cops with some of the things they say - they just defect and pull over modifyed cars because they can -

thats the sort of attitude that gives them a bad name and causing problems between police and the public.

what frustrates me is these guys are defecting and harrasing any modifyed car because they can - i have been let go a few times as i no some terminolagy (bad spelling) and how to log internal complaints through the police and they hates these as it is a mark on them and stops them getting permotions.

i only bring this up if they are not treating me respectivly or are trying to defect me like to low or loud with out actually checking -

i dont through this round - as there are good police out there - i dont mind copping a fine or defect if it is correct

You have to find a engineer that is Rta registered, I was talking to the police about it in sydney here after he defected my car, he said if I get it properly engineered by one registered with the Rta I could have my 20inch rims on my 33, but it has to be a legit engineer! So when the police punch your registration into the system it comes up with all the Rta info stated if its engineered or not. And they still defect after that u can take them to court and you will win!

    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
