Hey every one, Ive got a R32 Rb20det Gtst thats only getting around 250kms per tank with BP98 driving sensibly. It has a 3" straight through exhaust, a big front mount and a RB25 turbo.

I cant find a reason why im getting such low K's!

Could it be it just needs a tune with those mods?

Could any one suggest any thing to check please.

how many litres are you calling a "full tank"? the tank is 65L. are you running it until the car simply runs out of fuel? are you running it until the fuel light comes on, cause there is roughly a 10L difference in amount of fuel used there. and if the light isn't coming on before you get fuel then there could be anywhere up to about 20L of difference in fuel used.

so how about you start calculating your actual fuel economy in litres per 100kms driven, and then we can give you an indication of whether you are just getting the typically poor fuel economy that turbo skylines get, or whether you have something actually wrong.

Ok so that's roughly 16l/100kms. Depending on how you drive then that's only slightly poor economy. If you like to give it a squirt and do a fair bit of driving in stop/start traffic then it isn't too bad. If you do plenty of highway driving then it is a bit crappy

As above the fuel light is ridiculously conservative. Your R32 may be different but on my R33 I have seen the fuel light come on at 1/4 tank before!! I wait until my needle first drops BELOW the empty mark and then I know I have about 10 litres left in the tank and a range of around 50km before I really should fill up. I can consistently put in between 55L and 58L so you are filling up way too soon.

km per tank is meaningless, unless you are really pushing it close to empty it's not "a tank" anyway. The ONLY way to tell people your consumption is in litres per 100km.

My r33 gets around 12.5L/100km in typical, gentle driving to and from work. Bear in mind I have minimal start-stop traffic it's usually cruising at a steady 60-80km/h depending on the speed zone. If you are in start stop traffic your consumption goes to poo. If you put the boot into it your consumption goes to poo. If your O2 sensor is stuffed or you got a cheap tune your consumption goes to poo. I did a tank recently after flogging my car more than usual and it was above 14L/100km, it surprised me. But that's a car that I know is in perfect nick because I always get great economy on it. A dud O2 sensor will easily cost you more in fuel.

As above, there are so many variables in fuel economy. If you let the car suit and idle for a while before driving then you will get worse economy (and it's not needed). While low revs help economy, low amounts of throttle help more. If you floor it but only rev to 3500rpm you will use more fuel than someone who revs to 4500rpm but uses light throttle. Also driving short trips will result in poor economy.

There are mechanical issues that can cause poor fuel economy though. O2 sensor as already mention, dodgy thermostat (if the car doesn't come up to temp within about 5 mins if driving then get a new thermostat), dirty air flow meter, sticky brakes.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
