For the first time 1979, we can pick our own CTP insurance! Hopefully a bit of competition brings the cost down a bit for us!

so, just like nsw?

yeah, good luck with that one....

effectively, its compulsory, so they charge what they want, and you have to pay it.

I tried to bargain a couple of times, calling different companies, and was told, 'nope, thats the price, I cant adjust or change it at all.'

hope its better for you guys than us.

mate are you in NSW?

if so..

i work in queanbeyan and a few ladys were saying there is a web site through the RTA and you fill out your details and they show you the best deal - they ladies said they saved between $100 and $150 to what they were offered - (site is mma or something)

I am in nsw.

and the site is greenslips.gov.au or along those lines.

it was the same price as the one the company sent out.

and what I was saying, called one of ghe 'competition', theirs was 15 more.

said they couldnt do anything.

so, staff cant adjust price.

care not if they loose business.

and can charge what they want because its COMPULSORY.

so, you HAVE to buy it from someone.

can we say price fixing?

I found a good price last year for CTP using a comparison website and when I called the issuer the price was higher. The explanation was "those websites don't update as often as the insurer does".

The best price for insurance I have found has been through brokers.

Yeah I'm not holding out much hope that it's suddenly going to become super cheap. But at least it's better than having no choice whatsoever.

I guess, hope it brings it down.

any saving is a good saving at the end of the day.

  • 2 months later...

pfft go figure NRMA is cheaper, here are my results to get my r32 gtr renewal rego

6 Months 12 Months

NRMA $482.60........................................................... $901.20

AAMI $492.70............................................................ $921.20

GIO $488.60.............................................................. $913.20

APIA $491.70............................................................ $919.20

what the hell is up with ALL of them with friggin 20 cents for 12 Months scheesh, after NRMA has had a monopoly on rego in A.C.T now they are the cheapest grrrr

It goes on weight and you have a whale :P

Yeah so much for it being any cheaper (not that I really thought it would). I renewed mine in May and NRMA was cheapest but it had still gone up from last time

    • Oil change does not trigger code 21. Code 21 is for coilpacks primary side connection. You can try to clear the code with a battery disconnect, hold down the brake pedal to drain capacitors through the brake lights with the ignition on for 10-15 seconds before you reconnect the battery. I have seen R35 coil conversion permanently cause this code with no ill effects so it might be the resistance it wants to see isn't quite right on one or more coilpacks. Could be inside the ECU, could be the harness, could be a coil. You can test it all if you want or just ignore until the car actually starts misfiring.
    • I forgot you have a Nistune ECU. Use Nistune to do all the tests I mentioned instead of faffing with 30+ year old electrical connectors. You can read MAF volts off that too, there are reference values in the service manual to tell you roughly what it should be in different conditions.
    • No. I think it might be the AFM. Hence the use of the terms "swaptronics", which implies the use of swapping out electronics for the purpose of diagnosis. It's about the only way to prove that a small/niggling/whatever problem with an AFM or a CAS or similar is actually caused by that AFM/CAS/whatever. A known good item swapped in that still gives the same problem is likely to be caused somewhere else. They're all the same. Spraying AFMs with cleaner is an each way bet between cleaning it and f**king it.
    • Oh wow! This might actually work amazingly. Do you know the ratio of the diff? I was told the only thing you need to make sure of is if the front & rear diff ratios are the same. Ours is a 4.083 Thanks!
    • You think its the AFM? I know its a common issues on R32s. I find it coincidental how this issue raised right after cleaning the fuel system. As everything except the fuel system was fine before. I tried running it with the IACV unplugged but did not notice a difference and still stalled. However, the RPM gauge is not in the cluster right now, so I will need to connect the laptop again and use Nistune to check the RPM. I will check this weekend.
