This is a rant thread just wanted to share this nightmare I'm having and hear some thoughts on what to do next..

Monday 24th June - Towed my car to the workshop for a gearbox replacement. ($180.00 tow truck cost)

Saturday 29th June - Get a call from the shop that its all good to go. I go in to pick it up, pay the money then start it up. Fuel starts spitting out from injectors, wait 2 hours while they try and re-seat the injectors while just filling my engine bay with fuel. Eventually they seal up the injectors and send me on my way. While driving to a meet a notice that its only hitting 12PSI (used to hit 16PSI) and gear box doesn't select 4th gear. Loud whining noise coming from the box.

Sunday 30th June - Drive car out to the Northside, end up stranded as I noticed the gearbox was leaking auto fluid everywhere. Car sits at a random location out in the open on Sunday night. Have to cab it home $40.00 cab fare.

Monday 1st July - Take dayoff and work cab back out to the Northside (another $40.00) to meet tow truck driver to tow the car back to the shop (tow truck cost me another $180.00). Half day a right off.

Wednesday 3rd July - Take half day off work in the arvo to get a lift with a friend back to the workshop to pick up the car, they called said it was ready to go, I asked them to double check everything as this was the last day I could take off. I get there they give me the keys and say its good to go, I notice a couple of things, oil dripping from auto box & scratches all over my engine head... I let them know about the dripping oil, had to wait 30 minutes while they found the mechanic who then just changed a washer and told me to keep an eye on it.... :/

While driving home it only hits 6 PSI and sounds terrible. So when I get back to work let it cool down notice that one of the clamps for the intercooler wasn't even on. Have to cab it home. (another $30.00)

Thursday 4th July - Cab it into work (another $30.00), Bring tools with me fix up the intercooler clamp on my lunch break..... then go to start it up and injector 5 starts spitting fuel everywhere....

So I call up the mechanic once again and let him know the injector is leaking and I won't be paying for a tow back down there. So after he abuses me and tell me he did me a favor he then gives me a number for an injector guy to call....

Seriously what is this crap? Doesn't anyone car about their reputation anymore? If I ran my business like this I would be a bum living on the street...

Attached images are of scratches on cover and how I found the intercooler clamp.

wow... i'm just lost for words... which workshop is this???

OP has done the right thing and NOT named names... Keep that to PM only guys!

Sounds like you have had a pretty rough time with the car/shop! Time to move onto a new shop that cares about you and your car!

I had a very bad experiance with a local shop and months later they were basically out of business, word of mouth goes a LONG way, just be careful what is said online as they can do you for deformation of character etc....

Cheers guys, yep will hopefully get these injectors resealed and be on my way. Who would of thought all this would come from changing a gear box.... :/

To make it worse 1 week before the old box died on me... ( reverse band broke) I payed to get the auto fluid changed.... $600.00 down the drain lol

but it would be good to have a place where we can name and shame dodgy workshops...

would it be defamation if the OP just stated what happened? like how xxx did not do this ... or did that instead etc?

Bad reputations spread fast. You can name names in PM's as much as you like, but on a public forum its a no no!

Still a very strong defamation case. Do not name names guys. Definitely keep it to PMs. We can potentially have our asses handed to us over something as basic as this.

I work in a law firm. I won't be naming the workshop publicly, word will get around. Just a shame it had come to this.

You know after all the problems I still called him up and gave him a chance to fix the problems but after I copped the abuse on the phone I am really contemplating my options in regards to the law courts. Many of the lawyers I work with really want a go at him.

Smart choice :)

Fair Trading seem to be keen to help with things like this BUT you have to have signed agreements with the work to be carried out along with any correspondance between you and the shop! Its a lot of He said, She said sort of stuff.

In a small claims court you would probably struggle to get a result? (Happy for you to prove me wrong though).

Either way, feel free to let people know by word of mouth like i did as the shop really did the wrong thing by me and the more the story got out the more you heard... Amazing how many people sit back quietly on these topics.

Thanks GeeTeeTee - ps: your build thread is awesome!

TTT - good question, even worse is why did they have to take out my intercooler?

gearbox was for supply & fit.

should be a warranty on box, box is all good now just have this injector and boost leak problem now.

Thanks mate!

And yeah, why were the other items touched anyway?

Yes his build thread is sweet, Saves me having to do research for future mods.

I would be checking everything else over and making sure that it is exactly what you drove in there with.

    • Can't you put the pistons to TDC and then do the valve seals? Or will the drop down too far to pull them back up?
    • One thing I can tell you is, do it properly the first time. If you encounter unexpected problems just let the car sit for a week or two if you have to get some other parts or figure stuff out.  I'd have said go and use as many OEM parts as possible but since you want to change the turbo later on a custom kit is probably the better choice. Since I have no experience with RB25 just compare parts diagrams and images before buying a line kit and it should be easy to see if it has everything you need. Amayama has very good parts diagrams and part number lists, that is what I used a bunch to figure out what I might need. And don't forget to plan ahead and possibly renew other stuff that's easy to get to while you're in there doing the turbo lines. Happy wrenching
    • Update 4:   Hi all, good news. Engine is running and all the gaskets and seals seem to be working as intended. No leaks so far, even the JB Weld seems to hold. I flushed out the old coolant a few times and put in fresh coolant, not Nissan stuff, I decided to try the Ravenol Protect FL22, they claim it works for a wide variety of JDM cars and the opinions on it by some people were pretty good. And it has the nice poison green color! And man am I glad I bought a coolant system tester earlier this year, vacuum filling works wonders on this engine. I can definitely recommend this to anyone still doing it the old school way. All you need is compressed air supply. Will have to do a small test drive as soon as I can, I removed the gauge cluster again as the tacho needle was still bouncing around a bit but it was much better than before already.  I also found some cracks on all 4 tires inner and outer sidewalls. Apparently these tires should 't be parked on for extended periods or be kept under 0 degrees during storage, which I did not know. Clearly the previous owner didn't look into those details either, he probably bought them just cause they are cool semi-slicks. I'm just wondering how tf I am supposed to reach 30-80 degree tire temperatures on the public road consistenly, these tires were never going to work for my use case. I'll probably order Continental SportContact7 ones as these are the best allround summer tire available right now and I don't think I'll need anything crazier for now. Do let me know if you have experience with various tires and which ones you recommend.
    • You have no idea how many goddamn boxes I received these past three months haha Most have been put to use by now though, luckily
    • Not going to pretend I didn't do a bit of junky work this time around, but mostly due to the fact that some things I am not willing to spend days fixing right now, like wiring. I try to do most things properly the first time around.
