rorii
Possibly a very easy question but never dealt with defects before. Bought an unregistered car with a red sticker. The paper work that came with it didn't have any of inspection stations ticked for example AIS, AUVIS, etc The only thing ticked was: Full inspection and Light vehicle As the car's rego has lapsed, it will need a blue slip. Is that all is needed to get the car on the road now? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/428137-red-sticker-and-unregistered-vehicle/ Share on other sites
ianjb
Red sticker is a major un-roadworthy defect. You need to get that cleared first. Yes, once cleared you need to get what was once called a blue slip http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/expiredcancelled/cancelledrego.html Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/428137-red-sticker-and-unregistered-vehicle/#findComment-6917549 Share on other sites
rorii
Where do I get them cleared at? Keeping in mind the safety stations were not ticked. ianjb
A lot of people can do the inspection http://autocollective.com.au/category/defects/what-to-do/ - this page suggests looking here for people who can do it http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/index.cgi?fuseaction=inspectionstation.form But, I think this is only for a e-safety check (pink slip)Infact ( & this is just a free plug), just last night a bunch of us where down at Japlink / JLM in Rydalmere for a SAU members tech night to talk about engineering certs, compliance & more.Great set of guy's, super friendly and will tell you straight up what you need to do and will try to help you as much as possible if they can. Try giving them a call. luke gtr
what type of car? if it is a grey import(im assuming it is), you can no longer get them cleared at pink slip stations(ais). they all have to go to a blue slip(auvis) station to be cleared. so, either way, its getting a blueslip. as mentioned, just had the tech night at japlink, great bunch of guys, and can do blueslips Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/428137-red-sticker-and-unregistered-vehicle/#findComment-6917650 Share on other sites

luke gtr
so, if its more convenient at a place near your work, so be it. be sure to write a letter with your name, lic number, car vin, leaving from, going too, reason, and expected times if youre driving. rms states you can drive for rego purposes, cops think you should tow it. Red defect + Unregistered. Yeah, I'd be towing it to, especially to be able to get it to a place that will look after it more like JLM. r32-25t
If your going to drive it, the only way to drive it without the risk of being booked is to obtain a permit from the rms/rta Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/428137-red-sticker-and-unregistered-vehicle/#findComment-6919762 Share on other sites

rorii
Hypothetically speaking, What if I were to remove my plates? Cops won't know the car is red stickered and I can say I'm driving to the nearest blue slip place, which I am, to get it rego'd According to this link: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/unregisteredvehicles/index.html there shouldn't be a problem The car is reverted back to stock, it's no longer a defect, according to me anyways. rorii
Sounds like the go unfortunately. Was under the impression that I am able to drive it to nearest blue slip station, even under defect. Frosty
if it is older than 3 months you no longer need to clear the defects however you will need a blue slip so they do a full inspection! Fix the things listed then take for a blue slip Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/428137-red-sticker-and-unregistered-vehicle/#findComment-6925338 Share on other sites

This is also correct! you may drive to the closest inspection station (to your home address) Edited July 12, 2013 by Frosty Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/428137-red-sticker-and-unregistered-vehicle/#findComment-6925340 Share on other sites
badben
To drive an unrego'd car you need to obtain a permit. No registration is no registration. You won't be covered if you hit any car or person. Paying the tow fee or rental fee for a trailer will be cheaper n safer. My understanding of the ,drive to the nearest station for a slip, is for pinks only. It's for cars just out of rego who still have the 3 mouths to get a pink slip. That's when you can shoot up the road to get a pink.
