Hey guys I just bought my first gtr r32 after selling my honda s2000 and the experience has been interesting so far. I bought the car from sydney which is where I live for a very good price. I bought it off a very nice guy who happens to be Rod Markland ( im not sure if he is on here or if any of you guys know the gentleman). Well anyways the bloke is 75 and what suprised me more than the car's condition, immaculate fully refurbished interior, complete rebuilt engine and spotless engine bay (rebuilt before Rod by someone equally interesting I think) was the fact that Rod owned the GIO Gibson GTR parked right near the car I was buying in his garage...Apparently Rod is a retired race car driver and I had just purchased his daily driver.. The car is absolutely flawless besides a slight gutter rash on the r34 gtr wheels it sits on which I will be taking care of next week. The car has everything ... even a factory fitted drink cooler in the glove box :/. Its currently on a safe daily tune by JEM on 300 hp at the wheels with a power fc. Well anyways Rod also gave a folder of receipts and such which I decided to go through today.. he had told me his friend Terry owned the Winfield gtr but I honestly didnt know who Terry was at the time. Anyways going through the reciepts I came across the rego transfer papers and the ppsr showing the car is all clear. I was curious to know who rebuilt the engine using what parts because Rod said he paid good money for it from a trusted source. Anyways I stumbled across the previous owners name and on the papers it said Terry Ashwood.. I googled who he was and now im coming to think this might be the very same Terry Ashwood who owns the gtr which won tooheys 1000. I was actually curious and asked Rod how much it would cost to build the gibson gtr and he said $650, 000 back in the day but he goes his mate Terry owns the Winfield car and is asking for $1.3 million.. if so I may have scored myself a very nice car. To confirm I will he calling Rod who invited me to the muscle car event on fathers day next month at eastern creek. Please feel free to comment on this.

Here are some photos I took back at Rod's and at mine :)

Ps. As a courtesy I hope you let Rod/Tez know you wanted to post.

Not that I think they would mind.

I have worked on your car....

muhahahhaa!

;)

It is a nice clean example. I am friendly with Rod + Craig, and slung a spanner at a couple of his cars, helped out (really just got in the way) at Phillip Island at the classics when Rod was racing. He still can steer exceptionally, and knows his way round a track. He'll be driving MCM.

I see they have taken delivery of the new wheels for the GTR, after their trailer was stolen with a set of wheels inside. :(

Hope you enjoy your new purchase.

Hi, Rod's son Craig is occasionally on SAU.

Terry is a great friend of theirs.

Terry still has a blue R32 GTR - again in immaculate condition.

Congratulations on your purchase!

My son also owns a GTR formerly owned by TA.

It's a Pearl Black R34 GTR V-Spec II Nur which was featured in the June Performance Imports Mag.

TA bought the car as a new personal import from the CEO of Powerplay Imports in 2002.

Rod and Craig would know of this car too.

If you want a few pics, these can be posted on this thread too...

Wow this keeps getting better for me.. PN-Mad where do you work I may have questions for you! I trusted Rod with everything he said about the car which can be considered silly by some when buying a car but he seemed very honest and genuine. I probably would have needed to ask Rod first before i posted this and I didnt know about his son Craig but I hope they dont mind because I am very happy with the purchase. I just have a few question about the engine or someone who has obviously worked on it can tell me a little bit more about it which would be of great help. Again I am very happy for the purchase so far besides the fact that I cant drive it for 6 months toll I graduate on my full licence :(

Glad you liked the car....you'll have to come out to EC for muscle car. Your very lucky you got that car.....I was touch and go on taking it.

Peter brought this nur in for himself originally, I worked on the car back in early (better) days of Powerplay. It's great to find out where and who it went to.

    • List all of your mods. It sounds like an aftermarket ECU hitting rev limiter. Like a valet mode, or a cold rpm limiter?
    • @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand
    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
