Hi,

Does anybody know whether R33 GTR front wheel bearings will fit series 2 C34? My driver's side bearing is shagged, and the only bearing I can find which is specifically for C34 is worryingly for "96-99" (which is odd since series 1 finished in 98 and series 2 in 2001).

Does anyone know if these will fit?

If not, I thought I might have more luck with '33 GTR since they're more common (on ebay at least).

cheers

Don't know Dave but at least the GTR one says its for awd and rwd front suspension components are often different. I haven't done a front wheel bearing on my car but on other cars I have just removed the bearing and gone to a bearing shop where they measure the ID the OD and the width and supply a generic bearing set c/w seal.

I just discovered that JustJap has the same part listed for all GTRs as well as 4WD stages front wheel bearings - http://justjap.com/store/product.php?productid=19332&cat=&page=1

The justjap part is an "NTN" part, and the eBay one I've been looking at at half the JJ price is a GBC one. Does anybody have any experience/preference either way with these? I assume GBC is "global bearing company", and a quick Google suggests that NTN is Japanese (a plus) but beyond that I don't know if the NTN ones are worth $120-ish each?

I did the rears recently, a lot of places incorrectly quoted the the GTST part which is different and half the price. I would be double checking the cheaper part is for an AWD skyline,

Otherwise yes the part number for the GTR front wheel bearing is the one you want.

Thanks guys. Ended up ordering 2 x R33GTR front bearings from justjap, since they're only ~$28 more expensive then getting NTN ones from ebay. Do they need to be pressed on/off?

PS The ebay ones are obviously for a series 1. The year is just off by 6 months. I contacted the seller and they told me they had a different part in their listings for series 2, but they couldn't supply it.

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
