Hey guys,

Have been searching around for the cheapest possible new gt3076r available.

The best possible combo I have found is as follows:

All up this would cost $1304.60 which is $300-400 cheaper than any other option I can find.

My question is, are these kinugawa housings reliable being they are half the price of a garrett? I know the kinugawa turbos are decent budget items but there isnt much search results about just the housings alone.

Also,

Has anyone ever had any experience of this size housing on a gt3076r + rb25 combo?

I know the 0.63 sizes are a bit restrictive for power but have good response. Would a mid-way 0.73 size be a good compromise?

Atm the rb25 makes 330rwkw @ 23psi with a gt3582r 0.82 but am interested in picking up response at the expense of some power.

Was just going to go 0.82 as so many people have examples of the response and power capable but am curious as to the potential of the 0.73.

There is a big thread about kando TURBOS not the turbine housings... I am asking about the housings.

I dont want a hypergear I want a garrett gt3076r.

Its a bit annoying that everytime someone asks an innocent question about turbos on this forum that people come in and shoot them down with responses directing them to completely different topics or products.

Your reply has nothing to do with my question at all which is about turbine housings offered by a company.

Yes they are reliable, and they flow well. Are they tested to destruction like the Garrett offerings? Probably not. Will they contain the exploding turbine wheel? I doubt it.

I run a stainless housing on mine, it's the Tial copy 60mm GT30 version and it works very well externally gated.

I may be selling a used 3076R 56T .63 AR T3 Vband turbo complete. Turbo is near new in terms of KM's or working hours.

Man that price seems pretty reasonable! Kando turbos have been used for ages now, so one would assume the turbine housings are being cast to an acceptable level. HKS did GT3037s with .73a/r turbine housings and people seemed pretty happy with those from memory, could hunt around and see how they perform - would assume Kando have used that as a template of sorts.

Burst containment is more to do with compressor housings than turbine housings, compressor housings are made of alloys are a bit trickier to contain exploding alloy - the turbine housings are probably a bit less of a risk in that sense.

What fuel are you running? Depending on dyno, engine setup and fuel you may not hit that 330kw mark with a normal GT3076R

Yep, Pump 98 on mine made 311kw on about 20-18psi originally, then i think 315kw later..... Still that is plenty of fun!

I dont expect to make 330rwkw again, I would be happy with 280-300 on 20psi. Want to run a lower boost on the street though.

GTScoT I could be keen for a swap. Mines a 0.82 gt3582r t3. Not sure how many km's is it on it though but its perfectly fine.

Well, doesn't look like swap will go ahead at this stage.

I'll see how well it works and if the 3076R is still choking this setup. If its still too small we can discuss a swap, I will be getting this tuned in the next few weeks. Need to sort out a dud C4 gearbox first.

Will get to solve everyone's curiosity on these housings also. Cross your fingers lads.

    • After using a protractor for an actually accurate assessment of what is required,  and by NOT using my uncalibrated eyeball I worked out I need a 25° silicone bend from the TB ro the MAF, but, my choice was either a 30° or a 23° (23° is a weird spec), so I grabbed the 23° one from Raceworks I also grabbed 1mtr of 3" straight from Just Jap, I needed 350mm, but they only had 300mm, or 1mtr lengths....meh Also ordered a 1/2" hose bulkhead fitting from fleabay, this has a smoothish mushroom looking head (they are designed for below the water line of boats) that will fit inside the bend, the hose bit and threaded bit looks to long, but nothing that a hacksaw cannot fix if required, the hose will then just get jamed on the threaded bit up to the retaining nut Fingers crossed and the unsightly amount of hose clamps will be reduced down to 4 once all the parts arrive 
    • Oil change does not trigger code 21. Code 21 is for coilpacks primary side connection. You can try to clear the code with a battery disconnect, hold down the brake pedal to drain capacitors through the brake lights with the ignition on for 10-15 seconds before you reconnect the battery. I have seen R35 coil conversion permanently cause this code with no ill effects so it might be the resistance it wants to see isn't quite right on one or more coilpacks. Could be inside the ECU, could be the harness, could be a coil. You can test it all if you want or just ignore until the car actually starts misfiring.
    • I forgot you have a Nistune ECU. Use Nistune to do all the tests I mentioned instead of faffing with 30+ year old electrical connectors. You can read MAF volts off that too, there are reference values in the service manual to tell you roughly what it should be in different conditions.
    • No. I think it might be the AFM. Hence the use of the terms "swaptronics", which implies the use of swapping out electronics for the purpose of diagnosis. It's about the only way to prove that a small/niggling/whatever problem with an AFM or a CAS or similar is actually caused by that AFM/CAS/whatever. A known good item swapped in that still gives the same problem is likely to be caused somewhere else. They're all the same. Spraying AFMs with cleaner is an each way bet between cleaning it and f**king it.
    • Oh wow! This might actually work amazingly. Do you know the ratio of the diff? I was told the only thing you need to make sure of is if the front & rear diff ratios are the same. Ours is a 4.083 Thanks!
