Hey guys my high flowed standard housing turbo with gt30/76 internals has died, I am on the hunt for another turbo.

What would be good for 250-350rwks and good to drive on street without to much lag?

I am leaning towards a garret gtx30/76 with a 82 rear housing what are your thoughts?

My engine has had a full rebuild with forged pistons eagle conrods etc etc. the engine build cost me about 11k so im hoping remac done a good job haha, so far so good.

Any links to turbos would be appreciated.

I heard those hyper gear turbo figures are no where near what people can get here in sa workshops, and that they won't last as long as a garret or hks turbos.

As for fuel system boostworx threw in a some deatschwerks 550lph fuel pump.

SA workshops must have pretty shit tuners then. :P

They will last longer than a Garrett if high volume clean oil is supplied to them. Ball bearings are much more susceptible to oil quality issues and don't like massive thrust loads, especially when shoved into highflows, as I guess you have already found. A bush highflow can be rebuilt for $200 odd anyway.

Boostworks didn't throw in a 550Lph pump, there is no such Deatschwerks. The e85 400lph isn't available yet so I guess it's the DW200 or DW300?

Personally I wouldn't choose a GTX wheeled turbo.

GT3076 is fine but possibly a small framed Hypergear with roller bearings to get the better transient response would be a winner.

IMO 270rwkw ish on pump fuel for a Stagea is plenty without too much penalty down low.

Is power referring to in all wheel kws or rear only? Any way the difference in AWKW and RWKW is 13% (RWKW is obviously higher).

The Stagea tows a much heavier chassis and with 4WD the engine takes much more load compare to a standard Skyline, which creates a similar effect as if the dyno ramp is much heavier. Means exhaust side is hotter and turbo spools up quicker.

So a larger turbine end compare to the .63 is preferred, and our Billet SS2 in .82 would be some thing nice for this application. if you are serious about power and response then get a high mount manifold + EX gate, and run the SS2 Alpha version, which has ceramic roller bearings with VNT turbine. I haven't seen any thing that is more responsive in the same HP range.

Still being an auto I'd prob head towards a 3071 for response , but I'd definitely look at hyper gears turbos they seem to be the goods . My 3076r is a good thing but I'm running a small .63 exhaust housing with an external gate , so when it comes on its like a sledge hammer

doesn't matter..if you use jaustech dyno, no turbo will get near what people quote anywhere else, it seems to be a heartbreaker

you'll struggle to get 250-26rwkww on it..don't worry about 350..lol.\

I have a hypergears G3 type A , on that dyno on 98 it did 258rwkw i think with boost 19 to 16ish up top. Jaustec apparently did 5 other 3076 56T .82 setups

and they all made in the 250's maxed apparently on 98..However i found my blow off valve leaking after that, so i think theres a bit more in it as when it stopped leaking ...19psi it was setup to went to 25-26psi...

Anyway i get 2-3psi on stock converter

2-3psi by 2300rpm, it pulls nice from 2800ish.(theres a lull around 2500..thats not the turbo, thats the turbo trying to build boost against the stock converter and the converter holding it back ).after that i have never checked as i have a digital gauge but from there to 3800 i get plenty of boost,

enough to out acceralate normal traffic, easily and climb big hills etc without downshifting

3800rpm i get 20psi, and it makes goes fastest if i shift at 7300rpm and holds okay to 7500rpm then drops off.

the FNT is good, from 2300- to 3800 it flat out works

I'd go the ss2 if i had the choice again, having said that ,what i have i really enjoy and wife likes it to

Unless you piss of the 98 octane , you'll never make huge power, 250-270rwkw will be about it, dyno depending without retard lag

Really, your wasting that pretty motor unless you go E85/WMI/ or fuel spike

cheers

Im on 3 weeks holidays soon, going to Melbourne for a few days.

Might just come home with a hypergear Billet SS2 in .82, wish the stageas turbo wasn't routed otherwise i could have drove it over and got hypergear to fit and tune it for me.

Why you would consider anything but a Hypergear is beyond me TBH. Stao has achieved some fantastic results and there is nothing in the same league dollar for dollar. And the support available, from Stao and others who have fitted HG turbos, is second to none and very evident in the HG turbos thread.

I was all set to shoot for 300awkw using an ATR43G3 until some bastard stole my motorbike :( My tax return had to go to replacing it instead.

SS2 is a better turbo compare to the G3. it eliminated the internal gate boost dropping issue through compressor blade profile. So when used as stock replacement it makes better power and response.

I only build turbocharger, I don't work on cars (apart from my own). but I can organize a good mechanic that I work with to have the new turbocharger installed.

Yeh i have external..on dyno before fixing leak, it went 19-16psi..it now holds 19-20 psi on wastegate spring tension so i have no idea what power it makes atm

so this summer will take it back, touch up tune and see if it makes power with a tad more boost(22-23psi)

to cold to work on cars atm..lol

cheers

Hypergear do you have hypergear Billet SS2 in .82 in stock?

I will be in melbourne on the 8th of september till around the 12th i think, will be popping in to see you on one of them days.

We can have a chat to see whats best for my stag.

    • A few things that seem a bit off here. - why is there 2 BOV’s?  - the turbo smart BOV on the compressor housing, is it turned up ALL the way? I have seen this become an issue on old man Pete’s car. It would push open and recirc, turbo speed would rise and the boost pressure would do weird things. - stock head? Does that include springs? - tried a different MAC valve? Is it plumbed correctly?
    • Photo of manifold showing gate location? I mean, it's 6Boost, so we probably shouldn't be worrying, but always wroth knowing what the layout is. Plumbed back to atmosphere? Or into the dump?
    • Yes correct. Also, I'd avoid applying it to soft paint (however I doubt you'll ever have to deal with it in practice). So any paint that hasn't fully hardened, could be a 1k paint that never fully hardened or it could be a 2k paint that was laid down thick and hasn't yet fully hardened.
    • Bit of an update to this one. Having some issues on the dyno that held us back (boost spiking) and I want to pass some info over you guys and see what you think is wrong with my setup. The current readout on this dyno is 462rwkw on a low reading dyno so keep in mind it is a real world 500rwkw setup on a hub dyno. Don't read into the power figure too much as a sign of the issue. The short and curly of it is: 2.8 Litre Racepace build RB25 NEO N/A Head with VCT (internally standard however ) Borgwarner EFR 8474  Turbosmart 50mm Straight Gate + Mac valve 6Boost Manifold 4" dump to full 4" exhaust (nil restrictions) Wastegate plumbed back in and all angles in the exhaust system are acceptable and not too sharp. GFB SV52 BOV in cooler piping  Turbosmart BOV in EFR Housing   The issue we are having is it comes onto full boost for example at 4000rpm and spikes to 24/25psi, before dropping down to 17psi before slowly rising back up to the target boost of 23psi. It was extremely uncontrollable and the tuner actually had to ramp in boost progrssively with each 1000rpm on each boost setting we selected to try and reduce the amount of spiking. Sometimes we would see a drop of 10psi from the peak at the beginning of the run, to the low, until it took the next 500-1000rpm to stabilise back up to the target boost. The tuner is pretty confident that the straight gate is just a poorly designed product and leaks too much boost upon cracking the gate open and theres no way to fix it other than going to a poppet valve. He's also confient theres no ignition breakdown or floating valves. The fueling is extremely stable as well. Turbo speed is somewhere around the 109,000rpm area. The spanner in the works for me is that prior to this Borgwarner and StraightGate, the car was tuned on -5 twins at a diferent tuner, and he also had issues controlling the boost with it spiking around the same rpm range, so to me this sounds like the same issue and it can't be anything on the turbo side as this was all changed and I think the behaviour is extremely similar, if not the same. We also removed the mac valve and did a run on wastegate pressure and it still spiked and had the same behaviour. My thoughts on possibilities are: Boost Leak VCT Cam Gear isn't reliably activating consistently - (On this however, we did a run with the VCT disabled and the boost still spiked) Turbosmart BOV is not handling the boost? However this seems unlikely to not be able to handle 20psi. I have a couple of logs that I can't make sense of if anybody knows how to read them and can obtain further logs of other parameters if they are not enough, happy to pay for anyones time. The dyno readout with the power figure is the most recent last week. The other picture is from two weeks prior to that where we couldn't break 400kw (we removed the cat), however the issue of the boost control persisted. @Lithium @Piggaz @burn4005 @GTSBoy @discopotato03 I've tagged those that were quite active in recent pages here, no disrespect to those that know turbos well but I missed tagging. Cheers
