NRMA are called SGIC over here.

Last year, i clipped the back of a brand new Audi while turning out of a city street. Totally my fault, as I thought he'd cleared off and I was looking back the other way so I didn't get hit from other traffic.

Anyhow, it was a small scratch along his bumper, which took out a reversing sensor, about 2.5k damage - steep, but thats why you have insurance.

I got the letter from his insurance company, and paid my excess the next day to get it all sorted, all up it was less than 2 weeks.

Fast forward 8 months, I get a letter from a debt collection agency, threatening legal action if I don't pay for the repairs!

Called SGIC up, and they haven't paid anything for the repairs - they reckon the didn't get a copy of the assesment, which was BS as I handed it all in over the counter. They said they'd sort it out.

Two months later, get another letter! They still hadn't paid the poor guy. So almost a year after the fact, they finally pay up.

On top of that, when looking for insurance for the 34, my details showed 2 claims against my name for the same incident. Took ages to get that sorted out too.

Some ugly ass stories been heard. Pricks just care about taking your money and are so reluctant to pay when the time comes. Must be all those cyclones, floods, hail storms in the last few years that have made them such a pain in the arse now.

And so, if you had died of old age in the meantime, they would have taken the $$ out of your estate!

Monumental cockup!

What made it worse, was the reason there ended up being two claims was a mix up with the location of the accident.

However, as it was right out the front of there CBD branch, I failed to see how they could have stuffed that up as well

same thing happened with me a few years back but I was with Shannons

Car was hit parked on the side of the road.

phoned in with police report on same day, was a Thursday

Full payment on following Monday

The only good thing I can see is that they are a large company, so can hire expensive lawyers to deal with claims.

E.g. some douche slammed into the side of my mum's car years go. It was on a busy roundabout, this dude was on an electric scooter for disabled people. The dude was travelling downhill through the centre of the roundabout (yes, through the centre, as if he was a car driving through the roundabout instead of around it, there is a pedestrian crossing in the usual spot next to the roundabout). Douche wanted lifetime care compensation or something, case went for two years.

Only problem my mum did was pay the fine for negligence driving (because the police showed up and had to fine someone). Eventually the case was dismissed or something (never heard about it again).

Twice I have dealt with Shannon's recently.

Polite, prompt, followed up to see if I was happy.

Full choice of repairers. I couldn't ask for more.

The guy I spoke to was a Skyline enthusiast too.

I had my work vehicles with NRMA; at the time they had the lowest premium, choice of repairer (of which there were many approved repairers in the local area), reasonable excess etc.

I did have to lodge a claim at one stage. Took the car to my choice of repairer for a quote (which was fairly hefty due to some damage to the fibreglass canopy and bumper that had to be rebuilt) which NRMA approved without question, the repairs were carried to an "as new" standard out at said repairer and I paid the excess to the repairer when I collected the car. I could not recommend them highly enough.

From your story I can only conclude perhaps the terms are different private or business customers?

The Z32 is with Shannons due to their more "flexible" approach to an agreed value.

This I like to hear. Should be more of that kind of service :)

OP - not defending nrma but what does your PDS say about claims and excesses?

Does it say if you can identify the third party and provide them with their rego, address, name and number they'll waive the excess?

Unfortunately every company when a third party cannot be recovered from will charge an excess. Sure you may not be at fault in come cases but that's how goes.

Same if skippy jumps out in front of you. Excess to e paid. Why? Insurance company cannot recover from a dead animal.

Were you on a market value policy?

Spewing though it took them for ever to make a decision etc

If you aren't happy there is always the IDR process then if that doesn't work, financial insurance ombudsman

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
