Mugabetown - Whoretownin' At It's Worst.

with my boost controller switched off, it will run the minimum the wastegate spring/preload allows, so long as there is no damage to the wastegate lines.

that would be consistent with wastegate functioning correctly :) What pressure wastegate spring limits your boost?

I have often wondered about Wastegate actuation, as over time vacuum drops in an engine and the wastegate seals wear. So unless you constantly adjust it the boost control will lessen over time - good reason not to buy used wastegates.

On a far less serious note, and in response to 2.1 bar boost. In a modified GTIR years ago a friend used to boast that his engine could handle anything failing, so another friend told him to disable all boost control (wastegate locked) and remove the knock sensor for a 10 second full throttle blast. The thing went like a rocket - didn't blow up then, but one week later he called for a tow as he had just played catch the conrod. Motor pulled down and bearings were mushroomed and block had an awesome porthole. :)

lol......epic fail to that Gtir.

Having said that 2.1bar is no laughing matter

Yep, he was initially really happy about proving the doubters wrong until the engine died.

2.1 is high. I remember years ago hearing that Rigoli was ordering 5 bar map sensors, as the 3 bar were out of range on the racecar.

yeah those Rigoli boyz were truly nutz!

I remember their 4WD Hyundai Accent which ran 10secs or less

Waz crazy what they did by transplanting an Evo drivetrain in that chassis........but it worked!

That was the exact car - good memory :) the rumour was 43psi. I think it had a T60 or T70 Turbonetics custom turbo from memory.

See this thread for fond memories - 9.4sec 1/4. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/26511-rigoli-accent-in-the-9s/

Yep. Good times mate.......good memories.

I also happened to own an accent att when they did that lol

Turbonetics rings the bell as well.

Pretty sure I have a FastFour Mag somewhere about it

1.7 bar spring, lots of preload, did a few more tests consistent 2.08 - 2.1 bar, so needs to be backed off a tad.

so wastegate spring 1.7, no boost control gives 2bar? Boost creep?

    • It's almost certainly a reluctor generating an "AC" waveform. No, ECUs don't generally read those - they're usually set up for PWM square wave 0-5v stuff.
    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
