Hi guys,

I've got an R34 Tiptronic and Non Turbo.

I can only reach 3500 rpm before feeling the need to shift gear.

Any higher than that, it feels like it's struggling.

It's never reached up to 4000 even when the red line is 7000 or 6800.

Just want to confirm if that's normal for these cars? I've owned 2 R34's and both are the same.

Anyone know?

:thanks:

Feels like the engine wont be able to take it if I go any further.

Also, I have another revving problem..

2nd gear at 42km/h

3rd gear at 65km/h or sometimes 75km/h

watch the video.. what do you guys think? whats wrong with it?

Thanks

It does struggle above 4000 on neutral and also on any other gears.

The loss of power or hesitation only happens with 2nd gear(42kmh) and 3rd gear (65 or 75 kmh)

I haven't tested on auto yet.. Will see how it goes tomorrow

Oh yeah.. Another problem..

Sometimes it downshifts back to first gear after already getting to second gear(tiptronic)

I rev for a couple of secs in second gear and it downshifts and I'm back in first gear.

I'll be having everything checked together with my next minor service.

So I'm looking for anyone who has had these problems and any other ideas!

By the way, if you agree with someone, post a +1 for them and thanks for the above posts and ideas

That sounds like transmission problems, friends skyline does the exact same thing, goes to 2nd, makes a revving noise as if its slipping, then wil either stay in 2nd or go back to first. Again this is not on tiptronic as hes tiptronic doesnt work.

Based on past experience with my brothers n/a r34 tip tronic, it ended up being somethign wrong with the fuel pressure/fuel lines. (either fuel pump, fuel filter, or blocked injectors). Basically the car wouldnt rev above 5000revs in tip tronic (and neutral), it would simply just struggle. I cant describe the sound in words, but ill give it a shot. Sounded like feathering the throttle in 2nd gear going 100ks per hour, even though the foot was to the floor. Anyways that being said, it was fixed by the mechanic, he did something fuel related, i have no clue what though. He also reset the ecu (unplug the battery).

Note: he also had tip tronic dash lights flashing etc....but it never ended up being his transmission. It could virtually be anything, so its hard to narrow down. R34s show weird lights for a reason which isnt even related to that particular component of the car.

Hopefully i helped ya man, sounds frustrating =(

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
