Hey Guys, Im not one to really show off what my plans are...but that's okay cause I live in the states lmao. And I will need you guys help on the way to completing my Project! Opinions are always welcome, but try not to be a jerk. Everyone has their own way of doing something and this is how I decided to do it. Enough about that, The project is focused towards participating in events such as time attack/ time trials, Road racing, autocross and drifting. I love Drifting and Time attack, but there's just not that much of it in the area I live in so im open to things like autocross and such that are more in my local area.

*PS* - I take a lot of photos, love it, hate it, i dont care. lol

So a little history, This is my 95 Nissan 240. I bought it when i was a little over 16yrs, im turning 20 in Janurary. It had the Ka24de motor in it and it was as close to factory as it gets.

Since I've owned it Ive done a couple changes :

* Xxr 527 17x10 +25 all around ( 8mm spacers in front)

* 235/45 Toyo proxies , yes they are stretched quite a bit.

* Isis hr Pro Coilover and Full Isis Exhaust

* Nrg Steering wheel with quick release etc.

* stripped and painted engine bay etc.

* bunch of other little boring stuff like relocating battery etc.

Since I first started liking cars, i was always in love with Rb motors just like the typical nissan fan boy, so i had to go out and get me one!

Opportunity came along and I grabbed it!

Ive only had it for a couple months and honestly they are pretty simple engines. minus the hardlines vacuum lines coolant etc. you guys get where im coming from!

So when i got it, it was rusted up pretty bad on the surface and around it so me and my ocd self decided to clean it up, mainly because its cheap and i can tear it down and see what im working with before i start building it! oh...and cause i like things to look PURTYY lol

The guy i bought it from gave me a top mount manifold but i googled and its the TopSpeed Top mount mani , and honestly. it looks like a crap mani...I think i could weld better then that..

Looked Good though!

I finally grew a pair and put the heavy block on the engine stand! scariest thing ive ever done. and to this day is still scary.. so i slowly started to tear down the ex-side of engine mainly because it had the least amount of little stuff that i had to worry about messing up so i got to it, was a little scared about how the inside of the head looked on exhaust side but buddies told me that its suppose to look like that on exhaust side. After pressure washing and cleaning and everything, I picked up a couple cans of engine enamel and got to prepping and painting!

Dont bash my paintjob. I did it how its suppose to be done by the book lol. 2 full days of prep work, 1 day of priming and curing each coat and another day of painting and curing.

Started to tear down the intake side and boy was that complicated with all those dang hoses...ugh!

post-128336-0-50007300-1385697154_thumb.jpeg

my plenum came like this, ive been told this happens often on stock paint?? . getting it powder coated as well as valve covers and cam/timing covers.

post-128336-0-47180600-1385697246_thumb.jpeg

why nissan made this, is beyond me..cause it looks like its going to be a pita to get it back in, if it even works...can this be removed?? if so what are penalties or benefits?

individual throttle bodies are pretty cool. and inside the head looked pretty clean/new if i may say so myself. engine is suppose to only have 42k kilometers or w/e it is lol.

there was some buildup on my IACV...guess a section of my gasket was blown ..i dont know.

post-128336-0-85609300-1385697443_thumb.jpeg

tested the themostat...wasnt impressed by how late it opens..going to have to upgrade that to a colder step

.

post-128336-0-55436200-1385697485_thumb.jpeg

does anyone know where i can get these hoses in silicone or anything? I know they are known to cause problems. and i dont like problems. lol

This is how she sits as of right now, tonight..I need to go pick up some more paint and primer for tomorrow. as well as cleaning materials.

On a side note, i was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this ecu or how i can find out if my engine is out of a r33 or r32. the seller told me it was a late model r32 but i dont know what to think and history says dont trust the seller lol.

thanks!

More updates will come on a daily basis as long as the funds are there. I have alot more parts on hand, just want to inspect and clean up a bit before I get down to the serious business!

Stay tuned!

Any photos/videos of the actual car man?

Looks like the build should be good

Sorry about that, I have been tearing down my s14 and doing a bunch of prep work to get it ready for 26 as well as track time. but here are a few photos of it!

fe089553-dea8-4b9d-9ca0-742a739f6949_zpsd13ba2dc-97b1-4544-9dc9-35429a851229_zps965483_136357709895121_1030660188_o_zpse

As far as progress on my Rb26, been a little sidetracked with christmas and all but I dropped the Valve covers and plenum to get powdercoated and should have those back soon, I also ordered the Greddy oil block adapter and the Oil stud to put it on block so i can toss that watercooled oil cooler, and run lines to a air cooled oil cooler. Heres some photos so I dont bore anyone. and yes, having motor sideways was very...interesting..

photo31_zps56a46d35.jpgimage5_zpsbdaf9b0f.jpegimage3_zpse6a29b19.jpegphoto11_zpsdfdef8b7.jpg

Some more of the car, It had full interior and everything, not something you find often where i am. but it had to come out, as well as the tar that's all over the car, i used dry ice. i recommend it , super easy super fast results. after that i spent a couple hours wire brushing the areas where tar was and then painted.

photo51_zpsab591659.jpgimage8_zpsd1279994.jpegimage10_zpsb5ac03c6.jpegphoto2_zps5bffc7bb.jpg

Then i had to get to the chassis wiring , pulled it all out and deleted what i didnt need and rewired/loomed/relocated everything under the dash.

and one last picture of car with no motor inside :/

photo1_zps0749b815.jpg

alot easier to move it around with that r33 vlsd thought so i cant complain

oh and this was her before when she still had the little 4 cyl that took a beating!

thats right boys, she used to actually turn on lol..

Where did you get 17x10 xxr 527 rims???

I cant even find that size on their website???

they are 17x9.75 but i just say 17x10 cause barely difference and sounds better honestly lol

please don't get me wrong here, I love the RB in particularly the 26, but I would have put a SR20VE with a, given your in the states, FP GT3076HTA and given that car comes with an SR from factory, every where but where you are :/, it would be an easier conversion unless your doing 4WD as well then never mind

the only reason I say this is cause you want to race the car around corners and the RB will put over 100kgs right at the front of the car compared to the SR

my R32 GTR runs out of rego in June and I'm looking at track only setup for it and there is a good chance the RB26dett will be coming out in way of an SR20vet with a PT turbo for that reason

XKLABA,

Logically your right. Sr20det would be a better balanced engine for my chassis but its such a common swap in the states its just like why even do the swap now. I dont want to fit in , I wanted to be unique. Yes the Rb will make my car nose heavy. but that can be fixed. let alone the difference is barely different honestly.. just about the same as having a full tank of gas and having an empty tank you know? Plus i love Rb motors. No intentions on doing awd. not alot of people here do the srvet swap. we have a couple that will use the vet head but thats about it as far as ive seen.

and then theres the added fact that im more for the motor then the car. I have future plans to pull the motor out of my 14 and put it in a r32 when they can be brought over without no problem you know?

Car looks TAF , im glad your sticking with an RB motor and not trying to fit an LS in it

Also you might want fix some of the R32 engine weaknesses while its out e.g. crank collar so on …..

Cant wait to see more GL

idk if this is a noob question but umm whats TAF mean? lol hope its good!? and thanks, Not about that Ls life. however i will be using Ls2 truck coils. and yes. I will be addressing those issues for sure!

If this is something I feel like you guys enjoy reading up on, im going to try my best to keep it updated 24/7 for sure mate.

I'd do the RB26 over a SR20det but the vet version makes a massive difference, if your doing it to have the RB26 then all's good and nice conversion  and making good power is very easy from them

the weight difference is actually quite alot, more then a tank full will over come because the weight is in front of the front wheels, which will make turn in harder but will make drifting easier

I for one am interested in these kind of builds so keep us posted

Yeah , I understand how much of a difference it makes when your actually moving etc, but Im a die hard rb fan, love sr too but die hard rb fan. and also in the states rb swaps arent everywhere so the want for it is more so then caring for the cons of the swap. I dont intend on running this motor + car setup for long. just to set a good base for me. Im planning on doing another 240 build but with an sr for when i get serious.

but that probably wont happen cause 2 car trailers are ridiculous expensive haha, but hey, there are people out there that win races all the time with setups that arent as good as other you know. so ill take my chances with 26+s14 chassis

So small update, got the plenum and cam covers powder coated, I've ordered the Tomei gaskets for the intake side because of the factory ones history of blowing and im not trying to deal with any of that ! but yeah, i threw on the engine for photos and to keep them from getting scratched but they will be coming off once i get the parts to build the head and block. Here are some photos, hope you guys like.

oh and I have the Greddy Oil filter sandwhich plate with the ports for and oil cooler and 2 sensors and i was just wondering if anyone here has the same setup, because i wanted to know if i have the two an lines pointing towards front of engine, do they clear the oem mounts? thanks alot guys!

    • OK, so regardless of whether you did Step 1 - Spill Step 2 - Trans pan removal Step 3 - TCM removal we are on to the clean and refill. First, have a good look at the oil pan. While you might see dirty oil and some carbony build up (I did), what you don't want to see is any metal particles on the magnets, or sparkles in the oil (thankfully not). Give it all a good clean, particularly the magnets, and put the new gasket on if you have one (or, just cross your fingers)
    • One other thing to mention from my car before we reassemble and refill. Per that earlier diagram,   There should be 2x B length (40mm) and 6x C length (54mm). So I had incorrectly removed one extra bolt, which I assume was 40mm, but even so I have 4x B and 5x C.  Either, the factory made an assembly error (very unlikely), or someone had been in there before me. I vote for the latter because the TCM part number doesn't match my build date, I suspect the TCM was changed under warranty. This indeed led to much unbolting, rebolting, checking, measuring and swearing under the car.... In the end I left out 1x B bolt and put in a 54mm M6 bolt I already had to make sure it was all correct
    • A couple of notes about the TCM. Firstly, it is integrated into the valve body. If you need to replace the TCM for any reason you are following the procedure above The seppos say these fail all the time. I haven't seen or heard of one on here or locally, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. Finally, Ecutek are now offering tuning for the 7 speed TCM. It is basically like ECU tuning in that you have to buy a license for the computer, and then known parameters can be reset. This is all very new and at the moment they are focussing on more aggressive gear holding in sports or sports+ mode, 2 gear launches for drag racing etc. It doesn't seem to affect shift speed like you can on some transmissions. Importantly for me, by having controllable shift points you can now raise the shift point as well as the ECU rev limit, together allowing it to rev a little higher when that is useful. In manual mode, my car shifts up automatically regardless of what I do which is good (because I don't have to worry about it) but bad (because I can't choose to rev a little higher when convenient).  TCMs can only be tuned from late 2016 onwards, and mine is apparently not one of those although the car build date was August 2016 (presumably a batch of ADM cars were done together, so this will probably be the situation for most ADM cars). No idea about JDM cars, and I'm looking into importing a later model valve body I can swap in. This is the top of my TCM A couple of numbers but no part number. Amayama can't find my specific car but it does say the following for Asia-RHD (interestingly, all out of stock....): So it looks like programable TCM are probably post September 2018 for "Asia RHD". When I read my part number out from Ecutek it was 31705-75X6D which did not match Amayama for my build date (Aug-2016)
    • OK, Step 3, if you need to remove the valve body, either to replace it, the TCM, or to do a more complete drain.  First, you need to disconnect the TCM input wires, they are about half way up the transmission on the drivers side. One plug and the wires are out of the way, but there is also a spring clip that stops the socket from sliding back into the transmission. On my car the spring clip was easy to get, but the socket was really stuck in the o-ring of the transmission housing and took some.....persuasion. You can see both the plug to remove (first) and the spring clip (second) in this pic Incidentally, right next to the plug, you can see where the casting has allowance for a dispstick/filler which Nissan decided not to provide. there is a cap held on with a 6mm head bolt that you can remove to overfill it (AMS recommend a 1.5l overfill). Final step before the big mess, remove the speed sensor that is clipped to the valve body at the rear of the box.  Then removal of the Valve Body. For this the USDM Q50 workshop manual has a critical diagram: There are a billion bolts visible. Almost all of them do not need to be removed, just the 14 shown on the diagram. Even so, I both removed one extra, and didn't check which length bolt came from which location (more on that later....). Again it is worth undoing the 4 corners first, but leaving them a couple of turns in to hold the unit up....gravity is not your friend here and trans oil will be going everywhere. Once the corners are loose but still in remove all the other 10 bolts, then hold the valve body up with 1 hand while removing the final 4. Then, everything just comes free easily, or like in my case you start swearing because that plug is stuck in the casing. Done, the valve body and TCM are out
    • OK, so if you are either going for the bigger fluid change or are changing the valve body which includes the Transmission Control Module (TCM), first you should have both a new gasket 31397-1XJ0A and a torque wrench that can work down to 8Nm (very low, probably a 1/4 drive one). You can probably get by without either, but I really didn't want to pull it all apart together due to a leak. First, you now need that big oil pan. The transmission pan is 450 long x 350 wide, and it will probably leak on all sides, so get ready for a mess. There are 24x 6mm headed bolts holding the pan on. I undid the 2 rear corners, then screwed those bolts back in a couple of turns to let the pan go low at that end, then removed all the middle bolts on each side. Then, undo the front corner bolts slowly while holding the pan up, and 80% of the fluid will head out the rear. From there, remove the remaining bolts and the pan is off. You can see it is still dripping oil absolutely everywhere...it dripped all night.... I got another couple of litres when I removed the pan, and then another few when I removed the valve body - all up another 4l on top of the 3 already dropped in step 1.
