I have no problems with a pushrod motor - honestly four valves and twin cams isn't all that but I do draw the line at a Muncie 4 speed or a Toploader and a live axle, leaf rear end.

Oh and fuel injection please.

If you can squeeze in a T56 Tremec manual + a coil rear end...

And the mustang from gone in 60 sec, was a 67 GT500E the body was modified a little round the headlights, had a 429ci cobrajet engine.. They're re-relasing 400, 100 a year over 4 years.. Three different spec's the high performance one has a 429ci cobrajet engine, with a vortech supercharger pumping out 750hp at the treds, and a 150hp shot of nos along with it.

Mmmmm, Corvettes....

That coupe in the first post was a limited edition Grand Sport version brought out to commemorate the wildest factory Corvette racers of all time (1962, all alloy, fuel-injected 377ci V8s with optional 5spd in Penske car, coils all 'round, disc brakes all 'round, etc etc). Very collectable today in the eyes of 'Vette enthusiasts.

However, I'm a bit puzzled as to why noone has brough up the 68-69 ZL1 (and it's ZL1 COPO 9568 brother) Vette... Basically an all alloy L88-style motor with around 600hp (conservative tune, just like the GT-R Skyline) and no heater, air con, sound proofing, etc.

They ran low 10s once exhaust was freed up and a larger carby added (normally a Holley 1050cfm). They built a handful (under 20) of Vettes and around 70 Camaros (Bob Jane raced a Camaro out here in the Improved Production class in the 1960s-early 70s).

And the good son of rajab Duntov looked down and saw his creation and smiled. He knew it would smote those pesky Hemis back under thyne rock.

Personally, a 65 'Vert with a fuelly 327 and discs all 'round would do me as a cruiser... After my R32 GT-R, M3 BMW collection, E39 M5 Beemer, a couple of TVRs, a Group A Sierra Cosworth, blown 426 Hemi-powered 57 Chev Sports Coupe, and a partridge in a pear tree... :):(

And don't forget [all you rose coloured glasses freaks] a dash that rattles and doesn't fit quite right, steering that isn't centre or quite as direct, aircon that blows everywhere and doesn't work that well anyway, a demister that blows everywhere [get used to carrying a small towel to 'demist' the windscreen manually] a firewall that is cut and shut, an instrument cluster you have to bend down to see (unless your under 5'8" the top shroud of the dash covers half the cluster), and a car that coughs every time you go past a servo (8 mpg around town, 25mpg on a trip, 15 mpg if you get up it). And these are just the good times I remember.

I've never had the pleasure of owning a vette, but I've owned transams and a mustang, and my skyline is way better to drive.

I loved/hated every minute of them, would I have another one??? bloody oath, but I'd do my own conversion, I wouldn't use it as my main car, no way would I get rid of my skyline to do it.

spent some time looking around for the ZL1/COPO vette & camaros last night as they were the some of the hardest factory weapons ever.

but, like trident, i understand the gross impracticalities of owning old metal. doesn't stop me from want to get back into an old torana tho!

Actaully i know the car your thinking off, but the car pictured is not the Grand Sport, but a ZR1, the Grand Sport did not come with the LT5 engine

Yeh the ZL1 was an animal, kept the big block Cobra honest...but i think you will find that they only used alloy heads, not alloy block. They won their class at Le Mans.

And in their day they ran easy 11s standard, read a review a few years back where they bolted on some modern radials, and with std carbs and std side pipes the thing knocked out a high 10, remembering that the launch was not all that hard or aggressive as they didnt want to damage a collectible car worth a small fortune

Your garage sounds a bit like mine.... i hope you can afford it as i can only dream :D

...and id live with no power windows and crappy air con for the sound of a camy V8 at idle...

A neat 300hp will do me in something like a tidy '68 Camaro or 65/67 Mustang... late model Vette would have a similar purchase price, but id rather a restored 60's muscle car for the $25,000 to $30,000

What do you mean by special / anyone. There are specialists that have all the dash skins, steerign columns etc etc required to convert to RHD, i would be using ppl that have been in the game a while to ensure that the interior is like std, actually we are talkign about an American interior so better then std.

Places that i know of are Crossover Conversions, and a Corvette (+other US cars) in Canberra, think its called Corvette Country, and a place in Queensland, all of whom advertice in Unique Car Guide...well used to when i regularly bought it years ago

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed 
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
