Well it's been confirmed, Holden will be no more

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/holden-to-cease-operating-in-australia-from-2017/story-fn59niix-1226780453890

What sort of impact do you recon this will have on the country?

It's not a good thing. The amount of low skilled older age people who have to re-skill into a different industry is going to be a big problem, especially as most have families. The fallout from that is going to be the biggest issue.

Given Ford's previous announcement of pull out, I knew it was only going to be a matter of time.

I just hope the Federal Government gets smart & uses all the money it was going to give the manufacturers to re-skill the workers & create more jobs (we know that isn't going to happen though).

This country has been lucky through the years either side of the GFC, but the edge of the cliff is looming closer & I think the next year or two is going to be VERY telling.

Hey wht510

If you checkout the post times of both OP's then you will see that this one was posted 5 minutes earlier than the other one.

Luck of the drawn

I knew about the other one straight after I posted above..........

Im mulling over whether its worth upgrading to a comfy HSV or maybe a G6E turbo....

Ive managed with an old car that was never even sold in this country, I dont suppose ford and holden ceasing production will make a huge amount of difference to spare parts, though it would be smart to double check how many new parts will be produced in years to come.

I believe they legally obligated to provide support for vehicles for something like 10 years after it's made. You can also guarantee that with so many Falcons and Commonwhores on the road, spares will be around for a very long time, either genuine or aftermarket.

That^

Just look at cars that aren't made anymore, like R33 Skylines or any older model of Commodore. Can still keep a VT on the road easily and it's more than 10 years old.

I've found genuine R32 body parts readily available whereas with trim and body parts for my Commo, it was always the same story, item no longer stocked, try the wreckers.

Car forums are still the best place to source reasonably priced parts for these old models.

Well it's been confirmed, Holden will be no more

this comment continues to annoy me.

"AUSTRALIAN COMMODORE" will be no more, thats it.

we may still have the commodore and we are likley to get the camaro and corvett soon enough, amongst other cars.

Holden employees loose there jobs, sa industry takes a big hit, thats whats happening, which sucks, but holden is not going away.

rant over.

The Ultimate Betrayer :-

"Come outside and look at what's just come into the country love: I've just bought a brand new 2017 Chevy!"

Wife:-

"You mean the car you bought in 2013 with the same badge was something else?"

...aaah, the amount of Aussie "enthusiasts" PROUD of their badge!!!!!!

LOL Terry, the Holden badge will be lost in a generation.

Badge swapping for something it's not is a BIG pet hate of mine. LIke a maroon Magna I spotted in traffic near my place with a GT-R badge on the boot, or the E39 BMW 5MPower (the 25 doesn't sound as fast) on Saturday!

There are others too, but a new thread is needed for that!

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
