Hi Guys

So I'm taking my car to my mechanic for a freshen up and to ready the engine for some proper boost (skyline r33 RB25DET)

I want to sort out all oil leak issues - will obviously be doing the rocker cover gaskets, half moons etc...

What else should I replace while there? Anyone know what other common leaks the RB25DET has?

Yep.

Common spot is the camshaft seals. You would be mental to pay someone to replace just those without also doing belt, tensioners, water pump.

An oil leak makes no difference to how much power an engine can make.

What is involved in this freshen up?

How will it stop it going bang?

Did my 100k service about 10k ago. Well the camcover gaskets are leaking pretty bad(as in all RB's) so its kinda obscuring what else could be leaking as well., hence be wanting to know what could be leaking :)

Freshen up will include, walbro gs342, new breather hoses, transmission cooler and fixing up of all oil leaks (4th March) and obviously usual 5000km service(oil and filter change)

Will be installing new radiator, stage 2 shift kit, new radiator hoses, highflow turbo and 550's on my trip after that and then ready to tune (5th May)

you would be wise to check whether they actually replaced the cam seals or not. cam seals = front of motor, where the CAS bolts onto. mine leaked at 160k because they werent' changed at the 100k service.

cam cover seals are easy to do yourself. cam seals are a lot more work, timing belt off etc.

LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
