Hey guys,

Out of curiosity how much power did you put out before your gearbox has blown with the rb30.

Give us a rough breakdown on the
- clutch ( single / twin / triple plate )

- torque figure

- kw / hp

- how you drive it ( track it here and there / often or street it only )

My gearbox is in great condition when i was running 234kw on the 26 and redline oil but now ive got a RB30 with HKS2530's expecting close to 600hp, probably a decent torque level too with the ported head, ported manifolds , ported rear housings etc...

Going to wakefield soon.. Will probably blow the gearbox there... hopefully not till the end of the day haha.... can only hope !
I've got a single plate 6 button brass button now without a spun centre which is gna be a bastard... Lol... told jim berry i wanted something nice and driveable but he gave me that ... oh well..

How did yours go ?

Guys, what's your turbo selection?

Precision 7175, come on Paul give me the bad news. :)

On the other hand, give me directions for a good box that should hold up......

Good luck :D.

As for the box, you'll start to realise there is a "gap" in the market. OS set, maybe, but a few guys on here have busted them with sub 500 kw atw, let alone the 5 million you're gonna make with that thing! Whatever the direction, it's $$$ and lots of it! The 1-4 PPG helical dog set is prob the cheapest way out.

Ive been lurking in that PPG thread of yours a few times now, seems to be the right way going by discussions.

At the moment saving pennies and dimes, and trying to convince my son to do the change before the engine goes in, while he still has a box to work on before he blows it.

Watching.

I have an rb30det in a patrol, same gearbox (internally), weighs in at 2200kg on 35" tires, so has massive drive train load. (and 240,000km old)

My only upgrade was the cusion button sprung center clutch- 2100kg pressure plate.

Don't have a power figures yet, but guesstimate around 200-210kw atw?

    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
    • There's not a great deal to report here .... except ...... FOR .... LSD!!!  I bought a Quaife LSD from the UK and shipped it here .... Wish I'd just bought locally cause the shipping and duty was $700! But there were so many diffs used in the E90s I just wanted to be absolutely certain I was getting the right one so I spoke with a supplier in the UK who builds race cars and they have heaps of experience with the E90s.  I pulled the diff out which was seriously awesome - I've never done anything like that before, I must have watched 1000 videos on YT about it as well as consulting the Bentley manual. It was super easy in the end. The diff was delivered to the awesome folks at Hornsby Diffs and will be back in a few weeks. I also replaced the diff bushings with some Nolathane ones.  Really looking forward to getting it back and getting back to the track or even the skidpan.
    • yeah... the 13kg/mm springs weren't always in there, I had 10kg/mm but doing a few SMSP commanded heavier front springs. It's so good now going into T1 and T2, just need more seat time and real tyres.
    • Yes, well. Mine are less than half that. ARBs are not set to "dumb" either.
    • I would hope. But, we all know even the best companies have an issue sporadically.
