ive been listening around my engine bay intensely recently as theres a strange scraping sort of sound going on. the front end bearing of my gearbox is very worn so thats making a noise but there seems to be a scraping sound coming from near the turbo area.

its sounds like the wheels are scraping against the turbo housing. is this realistic? the turbo still spools up well and theres no loss in power... could this scraping noise not be the turbo? its driving me crazy!!

as macka said ive got a t04. i swear the scraping sound is coming from the turbo! but their appers to be no side effects, and when you stand over the engine bay and rev the engine it goes away... i really dont understand. macka mayeb you should swing by a have a look hehe:burnout:

have u leaned it out the turbo by running hi-boost and not having enough fuel?

if so, you have probably melted your turbine wheel and caused the turbo to go out of balance which might be causing the exhaust wheel to hit the housing.

check the shaft for any movement (in/out & left/right) from the compressor side, or get it checked out by a turbo specialist.

good luck.

nah i havent leaned it out that much

im running 12-13psi with a bigger fuel pump, and AF's around the 10:1 mark.

i might get it checked by a specialist... i dont know if im being paranoid or not though, because sometimes i hear it and sometimes i dont. also the front end bearing of the gearbox is gone and thats making noise around the same area so im not sure...

if it was scraping against the housing would it

a) be loud

B) occur under all conditions?

Hi dude,

My standard R32 turbo started doing the same/similar thing the other day.. It makes a squeeling/scraping noise only when the boost starts coming on (around .5 bar)

I'm taking mine to the mechanics on Wednesday 16th (if it lasts that long).. They said perhaps the exhaust wheel is unballanced or missing a "vein".

It's slowly getting worse i think.. :);) *tear*

    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
