I'm still kinda new to SAU so could someone just kinda fill me in on what the hell people are going on about so called "RICE". From what i can gather though it sounds like it has something to do with stickers n accesories on ur car. I mean the Japs have their workshop stickers n brand (ie HKS, TRUST, etc...) stickers on their Kilowatt monsters so does that mean your against that? Still don't get some of you.

Mods with no performance enhancement.........or a lack of ballance between performance mods and cosmetic mods.............

for instance.........HKS sticker = RICE. HKS sticker on a car with a HKS turbo in it = not rice!

i'm sure someone is going to argue with me on that one.

I think it's largely to label those who put stickers(HKS/GREDDY/APEXi/etc) and obviously don't have the parts on board the vehicle(I once spotted 'APEXi' stickers on an old school Ford POS-something....hmmm).

Also those who try to badge their cars into what's obviously not what is was originally...namely Honda boys and they obsession with labelling everything into a Type-R...Mitsu Lancer owners with their EVOLUTION/RALLiART stickering, and as of late some GTSt drivers with their GT-R badges. I don't classify those who put on GT-R kits as rice, but to actually badge it into something it's obviously not...that's rice.

I understand, but looking over this laughtatrice website most of these cars are a laughing stock, but one picture that got me was this one with the mitsubishi eclipse. I mean for one thing the comment states quote "With all the money spend on making this car ugly, he could of gotten some decent performance parts". But if you look closely at the car you can see it has a FMIC. I mean are these guys trippin or something?!?! The paint job kinda makes it look like the eclipse from the first fast and furious though. But i guess the whole rice thing is more clearer to me...This site is still kinda stupid i think. I mean some people will do up their car only for the looks, cause whats the point of having a fast car when you can't even drive it fast on the roads??? Although being a skyline owner myself i don't intend on making my car the fastest car on the road. Not everyone is the same, some people do prefer looks over performance.

Still i think that site is a bit weird. I mean the guys laughing at the cars look guys who would drive bloody V8's.

i dont really think theres anything wrong with modifying your car, because it gives you your own signiture and sets you apart from all the other cars on the road. i can see the attraction to modifying the cars appearance so to stand out, but personally, i would rather spend my hard earned $ on performance,

haha yeh ive seen intercoolers on cars that arent hooked up

Rice to me is;

GTR badge on a GTSt (Regardless of how powerful the gtst is)

An evo-look a like bodykit GLX lancer

Any stickers to which u dont actually have the parts (IE HKS sticker without having any HKS parts)

Exhuast on a NA car (Unless a descent sized V8 then its ok, but not a 1.8l hyundai)

And finally, *stirs the pot* Chrome mags (certain cars are fine, but 90% of cars get wrecked by adding 'chromies')

I also eat rice, with my mouth, and with my car :headspin: hehe

On one hand I don't like riced up hyundais or daewoos... Giant rear wings and lime green paint jobs looks ridiculous on what are essentially budget economy cars. Save the money and get an actual sports car.

...but on the other hand I also can't stand ppl who are like 'it's all about the performance forget the looks', and pour all their money into their banged up looking old clapper of a car and then then proceed to bag an r34 GT-T or GTR skyline because it's got racing stripes or neons or whatever as being 'rice' or 'ghey'. These people have NO taste and are TOTALLY boring and conformist, and the way they try to impose that belief on other people shits me off. Then you get people who are too afraid to be individual!

I mean say racing stripes, nice wheels, bodykits or even decals or neons or whatever all look awesome on the skyline if done with taste. If you got the muscle then go for the look as well. The skyline was not styled by pinifarina, it CAN be improved and given some more character, who wants everybody to be driving cookie cutter white and wine red skylines, I don't care if they were the fastest cookie cutter look skylines in the world, it would still be very dull IMO.

But of course, the main point is it has to be tastefully done, if you have no design or colour matching skills, don't do it:P

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
