Origiunal Quote from BlackRobin:

(I was looking through import lists for over 7 weeks and probably viewed 60+ R32 GTR's... 5-6 looked really nice)

I think most GTR's I looked at over the 7 weeks were stock (alot looked shit and run down) some have got way to many mods and roll cages etc... those looked like they would have been thrashed and subjected regular race use (not for me)

One thing I did notice on 95% of imports in Japan, they all have those stupid cup holders (sorry if anyone has some) I know the first mod I will be doing is getting rid of them from my dash (very RICE)

Origina Quote from Funkymonkey:

mate... take this as a very important word of advice... UNDER NO CIIRCUMSTANCE should you try to remove those cup holders from the centre and passenger side ventilation vents.... why? Because japanese cup holders and R32 vents is a one way thing, once on, never removed. R32 vents have this predisposition to crumbling to dust once you remove em. Trust me, I've seen plenty of R32s go thru J-Spec and most of the ones with cupholders come back in a week and ask for centre vents (mine included)

Hi,

Cup Holders... RICE... I think so. More so the ones that say Type-R (Type-R cup holders..thats an extra 10kw right?)

I have brought these quotes from another thread in the Vic Pages. My forum etiquette is novice, is it OK to to do this?

And, not that I don't beleive Funkymonkey... but there must be a way to get rid of them... they even say HOT/COLD cup holders? I really would like to get rid of them once ar arrives.

well esp with cars as old as the R32, the grill is made of brittle plastic, and if you exert even a little force on it you'll snap the whole thing off. For some reasons the 32's I think coz of the material its made of and the sunlight acting on it etc etc, the centre vents are easily snapped, and because of that the prices for that part on average is more than usual in japan.

Stickers add to the performance of the car? How? Stickers are usually very slippery, thus when the air passes the sticker it has less resistance than the surface of the panel.

So in short, stickers reduce the aerodynamic co-efficent of the car.

Example. Look at F1 cars. The cars with most sponsorship stickers are the faster cars. Best example the Ferrari's (also red is faster but that's another essay).

Cars like the Jordan and Minardi are slow because they lack stickers. :uh-huh:

 :bahaha:

It may, and I may also be wrong, but if the car is polished and waxed well enough, it'd give the same effect as several stickers. Plus, it also depends on the 'thickness' of the sticker, and how much this edge faces the airflow.

Anyway, even if you have the parts, there should be a part - sticker balance. Having a HKS intercooler, and then 101 HKS stickers ain't the way to go. Nothing wrong with a few small stickers though; but you still need the parts.

Goon, that's what aftermarket bodykit's are for.

GT-R kit on GTST = rice.

Kind of like those dudes back in the early 80s that would buy a VW beetle and buy a porsche full body kit. :)

But the question on everyones minds is.. is that considered early 80s rice?

i'll throw in my opinion for what it's worth. If you have a Nismo, HKS etc... sticker on your car and you have nothing of those brands on your car it's RICE. RICE is lying about what is on/in your car...

i don't think it's RICE if your simply want your car to look cool... my mate, who drives an FTO, couldn't care less about the performance of the car but still is going to get a body kit on his car and will put the RALLIART sticker on his car it's not really rice if it is a RALLI ART body kit.

but ralliart, as is nismo, the performance sector of the car company. you goto nissan.com you see the link to nismo part. you goto mitsubishi aus site, under sports there ralliart vehicles. this is why i say these 2 examples of stickers (or TRD and whatever other there are... STI ) are not rice as they don't imply a part in the same way apexi and greddy stickers do. i see your point though.

I don't think the GTR kit is rice, but if you put the badges on too that's a different story. Yes I do have a GTR rear spoiler on my car, BUT, it serves a purpose, it is capable of making downforce, unlike the standard R33 spoiler which is just there for looks. Does this make the standard 33 spoiler rice? When I bought my car there were Apexi stickers everywhere. I managed to get most of them off but am now left with a hideous sticky residue on 1/2 my dash. However the car did come with Apexi suspension, strut brace, intake, gauges etc.

Does this make the standard 33 spoiler rice?
How can a standard part be rice? (even if it's functional or not?) Are you gonna go into a dealer and say "Y'know dude, I think I'll pass on the Evo 8, coz it's got too much rice from factory..."

This whole rice thing is getting irritating.

my skyline came with some "skyline" stickers on the passenger side of the dash, the ashtray and centre console. that is ricey. they were removed the day i saw my car at the importers.

stickers like that are very unesscessary and unsightly that is why they are ricey, there is no value. i feel the same way about stickers on paintwork of any type be it characters, to stickers of performance brands, whether you have the parts or not on or in the car it is ricey.

why ruin the the body lines of a car by putting stickers on them?? like someone said earlier that is what your tool chest or toolboxes are for.

i am sure i will upset some fellow skyline drivers by my comments but i find it really dissapointing when i see a line with stickers all over it.

my friends tell me my car is "ricey" but they have no idea really, they think as the car is from japan that it is "ricey" this is why i am so vocal on the matter as i try to explain to them the differences between something from japan with a stock bodykit (except my front bar) and an over the top body kit on a car (usually an excel or corolla) with ridiculous wings and sheet metal hanging off it and say that is ricey.

any crap you can buy from supercheap etc. is most likely to have a high "rice" factor. checker plate inside the cabin is ricey too.

paint work is something differentpaint a car whatever colour you want. it has to have paint so it can't be considered ricey to have bright or offensive paintwork.

i have gone on too long here, sorry but i don't understand why you would want stickers on your car.

i saw a 1988 ford with printed out performance stickers glued to the side of the car, and also had some word printed out on paper and glued to the car window. It also had two NOS stickers on the back of the car....

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
