How:-

* Aussies can buy cars directly from o'seas?

* Retail car industry will be altered - even subverted?

* Do local car dealerships commence servicing overseas purchases?

* Is the term 'grey import' about to be redefined?

* How do car insurance companies place a value on these imports?

* Opportunity for federal taxing to go up - or does the cost to the importer go down?

* Will the states find a way to alter registration costs to their own benefit?

* Is parts availability a stumbling block to consider?

* Does the list of P-Plate-approved cars imported from overseas become blurred?

* Does this open up the opportunity for current importers and others to become compliancers?

When:-

* Will this happen only after Holden, Ford and Toyota go out of production?

Justin was photographed riding the ATV with Selena Gomez Friday in Ontario near his father's home.

olice say Justin was released and will have to appear in court later this month.

He could have a bigger problem on his hands though -- Justin is on probation for 2 years after the egging case in L.A. So, it's possible this arrest could trigger a violation.

Justin's attorney says Justin and Selena are fully cooperating with the police investigation.

good point, and well made.

Yeah they were talking about it on the 'today' breakfast show.

I wonder if this will extend to used cars.... This could be my opportunity to finaly get my Honda NSX I've dreamed of!

The report I read said it would absolutely never stretch to used cars :(

However as previously mentioned, just cos they said it won't happen doesn't mean much

Actually the Productivity Commission report explicity recommended removal of restrictions on importing cars under 5 years old from 2018 when the local manufacturers shut.

Geoff from Prestige made the point that the entrenched interests who currently get to charge monopoly prices will do everything possible to stop us getting cheaper cars: http://us4.campaign-archive2.com/?u=785a84e1e4c70bea6ac88ed68&id=e5e13929e1&e=e6437996df

Hmmm I'll have to give that a read when I get home. Still doesn't help with the NSX or skylines but heap GTR's could be a reality

With the changes to importing laws and people saying it will be cheaper to buy your JDM vehicles.

your still gonna be finding the cars not necessarily dropping in huge price. the importers will be loving it without the tax but the will most likely be selling at the same price unless the bigger importers drop their prices but i don't see suddenly all jap imports dropping hugely in price...

would be good if you found a really nice stock car and had the money to spend to bring one over yourself but then you need to hold a bunch of licenses and yeah... too much effort

but in the up side there will be allot more JDM vehicles rolling around hopefully if the whole JDM hype is still up in AUS

if they runs a 5 years from new import sheme

i think ill be one of the 5000 people on this site lining up for a 50k 35 gtr ( price in japan will go up because of it though)

yea baby

as for old mate who says it wont make much diffrence. yea na it would make a massive diffrence

obvioulsy people rolling in 50k r34s are going totake a big hit when a 3 year old 35 is 10k more

cheaper 34's for everyone

will make the world a cheaper/better place

    • forgot to mention that when it does this it does not kill the engine, but I have not kept the pedal down long enough to let it, as I see no reason to beat up on it as its got to be something simple, small and dumb causing this.  And as soon as I let off pedal, the engine returns to its normal super smooth operation and rpms re-stabilize quickly, once below 4k.
    • neither stumble or cut really seem to be an appropriate term....hard to explain its like a rev limiter but at 4k, but it violently shakes engine and entire vehicle as the rpms will not rise over 4k, even with slow acceleration. as soon as it hits 4k, it sounds like entire spark is lost entirely. plugs were 1.1 which I used as such, but later put in new plugs gapped down to .8 changed back after issue arose when I replaced the coils, still does it with either plug gap...damn and it was all running so good.
    • Oh how times have changed! I actually lean it out relative to my water/methanol injector duty cycle. The methanol adds a lot of fueling and you can then lean it out even more due to reduced knock.
    • Yeah my thoughts are the same, a well thought out WMI setup, would be slightly ahead of just straight E85 and you're also chemically intercooling the charged air, dropping it even further. This is why you need to add so much more fuel as soon as you spray. I remember someone taking me through their set up before (Dennis, has a R33, lives around Cabramatta - no idea if he's still around on this forum). He would target AFR 10:1 on 98, then as WMI ramped on, AFR would lean back up to 11:1. Amazingly, he did this all through his PowerFC, a relay to cut power to his EBC solenoid if there was not enough line pressure on his WMI kit. And of course, if there wasn't any boost made above gate pressure, you wouldn't be accessing the load cells with heaps of timing for WMI. One downside to that rudimentary setup, once the WMI came on, the EBC would unleash the dragon, and of course all the timing. Tyres would fry lol.
