Hey guys, so The bad storm In SE QLD Hit my Car hard with bad hail. My GTR bonnet is now Full of dints. I dont have anough money at the moment to buy another GTR Bonnet and have been reading people chop Gtst Bonnets to replicate a GTR Bonnet.

Just wondering if any of yous have done it before, Before I go ahead and have ago my self.

Ive searched this before and havn't found much info on it.

I done it to my gtst, cut straight across the front and through the frame aswell as the skin. It wouldve been nice to just cut the structure underneath and bend the front around to cover the hole underneath but no bog/painting at my new house says the mrs.

No ill effects, doesnt look like peeling at speed or anything

Do it on your car, mask across the front until your happy, then cover up anything that could be damaged by sparks

hi

i have done this on my old gts.

As previous post i masked with tape and cut the bonnet skin and framing. I then primed the cut and touched it uo

The paint was not damaged and in my case and put a n1 bonnet lip to hide the cut.

Note the bonnet latch on the gtr and gts are different. i also installed a gtr grille and the lever on gts bonnet latch sits between the gtr slats (instead of on top) and makes it difficult to open the bonnet.

Or are you wanted to install a gts modified bonnet on a gtr? if so its not really worth it as you would also need to change the bonnet latch

  • 4 weeks later...

I recently done it with a big grinder. It sliced through the outer and inner skin nice and easy.

I wish i was told this when i cut it, but the cut is not a straight line. It curves slightly.

I plan on welding a plate to close the gap between the inner skin and outer skin.

I'm going to run an n1 bonnet lip and a gtr grill which i will cut the bonnet latch to sit further in

As op clearly says he as a GTR and wants to use a GTST bonnet and you all have done it the other way around, it would appear that no it can't be done for the op as the GTR bonnet is bigger.. Unless I am missing something?

    • Oil change does not trigger code 21. Code 21 is for coilpacks primary side connection. You can try to clear the code with a battery disconnect, hold down the brake pedal to drain capacitors through the brake lights with the ignition on for 10-15 seconds before you reconnect the battery. I have seen R35 coil conversion permanently cause this code with no ill effects so it might be the resistance it wants to see isn't quite right on one or more coilpacks. Could be inside the ECU, could be the harness, could be a coil. You can test it all if you want or just ignore until the car actually starts misfiring.
    • I forgot you have a Nistune ECU. Use Nistune to do all the tests I mentioned instead of faffing with 30+ year old electrical connectors. You can read MAF volts off that too, there are reference values in the service manual to tell you roughly what it should be in different conditions.
    • No. I think it might be the AFM. Hence the use of the terms "swaptronics", which implies the use of swapping out electronics for the purpose of diagnosis. It's about the only way to prove that a small/niggling/whatever problem with an AFM or a CAS or similar is actually caused by that AFM/CAS/whatever. A known good item swapped in that still gives the same problem is likely to be caused somewhere else. They're all the same. Spraying AFMs with cleaner is an each way bet between cleaning it and f**king it.
    • Oh wow! This might actually work amazingly. Do you know the ratio of the diff? I was told the only thing you need to make sure of is if the front & rear diff ratios are the same. Ours is a 4.083 Thanks!
    • You think its the AFM? I know its a common issues on R32s. I find it coincidental how this issue raised right after cleaning the fuel system. As everything except the fuel system was fine before. I tried running it with the IACV unplugged but did not notice a difference and still stalled. However, the RPM gauge is not in the cluster right now, so I will need to connect the laptop again and use Nistune to check the RPM. I will check this weekend.
